first time hooking up to hdmi today
streamed netflix and had crushed blacks, when i changed the intel driver to rgb range full it got better but then it was grey looking...
maybe up the gamma or brightness but leave the inter driver setting alone?
    lost here...

hmmm ... you might be able to boost/change some settings via the notebook, but more than likely you've gotta tune/calibrate that external display (tv? monitor?)

It's a TV. 55xbr4 Sony. It's old and all but still looks great for regular tv/bluray and my other laptop seems fine so something with the driver. In the past I used to change rgb 4:4:2 in ATI catalyst control bit this is intel and doesnt give that option
