    Hi all,

It's been a while since I heard any talk about the 17z and 14z, the latter of which I have been excited to see since rumors about the z models first came out. I thought Dell initially reported that they would release these models later this year, but I have yet to see it happen. Does anyone have an opinion on whether or not the 17z and 14z will be still be released this year, or if it will be delayed? I want a new laptop for this upcoming school year but can't really wait too much longer...

I got really excited earlier this year when Dell announced the development of a series of new ultra-light laptops only to learn a couple of months later that the concept was scrapped and the only product to come out of it was the XPS 15z, which I don't like at all.

Now I suppose DELL is instead developing one of these fancy new ultrabooks, but I don't expect more than a Macbook Air clone with poorer display at this point. I'm frustrated from waiting so long and finally turning my back on DELL after being a loyal customer for almost a decade.

The XPS 14Z and 17Z concepts were scrapped? I didn't know that I figured that were going to be brought out during the Holiday Season, I'm not really interested in the ultra-light laptops

thanks for the tip zie! i guess this also means the 14z is kinda out of the loop as well, especially since dell just released the inspiron 14z. maybe it's trying to avoid the overheating issues it's seen in previous 13" and 14" xps models by not developing them at all...

UGGH! It has the ******* chrome trim AND horrendously low 1366x768 resolution? I just returned my daughter's 1080p XPS 15z 2 weeks ago because of that stupid trim coming lose within 2 days of opening the box.

I was anticipating the release of the XPS 14z for her with the hope that they learned from their design mistakes with the XPS 15z & Inspiron 14z.

    I guess not.

Time to just get her a loaded "fat" XPS 15 instead. :(

Consider the Sony Vaio SE. It's 15.5" 1920x1080 (IPS, or at least something with wide viewing angles), lighter than the 15z, similiarly specced to the 15z.

I would get the fully loaded HP DV6TQE. It is less "fat" and less expensive, but it will have better specs. I was debating between XPS 15 and HP DV6T. At the end, I went with DV6TQE and I am very happy with it so far.
