Alright so Ive always used HDMI to connect my laptop to my tv. I just got my 1645 and cannot get it to work for the life of me. When I open up catalyst control panel and i can see my tv's name (orion - sansui <---junk) but it wont send the video to the tv. I can set to duplicate, extend, etc and nothing happens. Cant figure this out. I have the latest drivers and everything. Could it be something with the compatibility of the tv? my 1530 worked just fine

    Hmmm...

Try connecting the HDMI cable only after Windows has fully booted.

Sometimes my TV has HDMI anxiety attacks: do you have any other HDMI ports on the TV to test?

    what driver do you have?

i install realtek ati hdmi driver and it works like a charm. i like the extended desktop option with two different settings for video.

    Realtek

    driver 8.692.1.0

tried other hdmi ports on the tv and still nothing. its the weirdest problem. the computer knows that the tv is connected because its name comes up but it just isnt sending the signal. kinda baffled to be honest

Have you made sure the TV is running the right input channel, ie(HDMI in 1, or HDMI in 2)?

Hmm...does your TV display 1080p? Does it have HDCP on the HDMI port?

Maybe go into ATI Catalyst, Desktops & Displays, right-click+properties the TV, and try changing the "Desktop Area" otherwise known as the resolution.

Video+Audio: I think somehow in HDMI these two are connected. Can't get one without the other.

    Funky.

Got the TV's manual handy? Maybe there's some weird option in there you have to mess with.

I honestly don't know what this could be now; was so sure it was the resolution.

Tiny chance: HDMI port gone bad? Could be on the laptop or TV...

Make sure the cable is firmly plugged into the 1645. Either way, it could be a bad HDMI port on the 1645. It surely wouldn't be the first report I've read about it.

update: with hdmi the only way i can get video is either the bios screen (low low res) or by uninstalling the graphics driver. what an annoying problem! vga works. dell remote controlled my computer and tried to tell me i was an idiot lol. i guess they are trained that way though. still no good solution though. level 3 support called me and said the only thing it could be is a compatibility issue. i agree. hooked it up to a couple of the tvs at the electronics store i work at and they worked. AGH!!!! (new tv? do need an upgrade...)

Hey benbeck08, can you post the model name/number of your orion - sansui HDTV for others. That way those searching will be able to quickly identify if they run into the same issue.

Sorry to hear it turned into a compatibility issue. Have you had problems connecting other HDMI devices to that TV? Looks like VGA may be the only way. Sure sucks though since that's not the quality that you paid for.
