You are trying to download something overnight on battery? Why don't you just plug it in?

I think he means if he leaves his PC connected to the mains will his battery wear quicker. If so, some Dell PC's have a special mode where the charging is cut off once the battery hits 100%, preventing this. Hope I understood you correctly.

i have a dell xps and i put it entire night on download i guess all dell laptops might have this option TURN OFF CHARGING select it from dell battery meter

doesnt matter what ur current battery shows 20% to 100% u can cut off the charging and leave it directly on AC power mode

i usually put my laptop to download on nights usually 4 days a week at 6hrs per night...
    didn't notice any deterioration..
won't be a problem as long as you keep the charger plugged..

I thought any chargers that can change color when charging complete should be able to shut off since it's know the job is done. Is it? If not, where is this "mode" and how do I set it?

Of course not. If the computer is asleep or hibernatiing, then you cannot download.

If you are so concerned, why don't you just take the battery out? I think it should run just fine as long as there's power from the outlet.

Yeah, Dell doesn't have any battery charging threshold control, if that's what you're looking.

That never worked on my old Dell ( xps 1710m ) but I know HP is able to run directly from an outlet while taking out the battery.
I'm not in front of my xps 15 so I cant check if it will boot without battery..

If it works, Imho if you keep the laptop plugged in 24/7 you should take out the battery to keep it healthy :)
