Hey guys im currently in the process of getting a replacement xps 16 and im worried the new one will have the same problem. When running on battery and it runs below 25% and i plug in the charger the screen went green red or blue tint. only way to fix is take out battery hold power button for 20 seconds and start up again. then they took to fix and new problem the screen just goes blank. so then i sent again and they say now they cant fix and they must replace. Can anyone with a similar config to me run a test to see if this happens with your system i would really appreciate it. Im just worried that if they could not fix my old one that the new one will have the same problem. I have not came across anyone else with this problem.
Cheers guys

Just checking, you do have the 130w adapter, right?
Batteries draw a ton of power to charge up when they are low, and less and less as it approaches 100%. Sounds like a classic case of not having enough power (to power all the components of the RGBLED). -
Cheers mate i really appreciate it. Ya i have the 130 watt psu let me know how you get on
-
Well buddy any updates? I should mention that when im running a few programmes and the battery runs low thats when it just goes completely dead and when nothing running and battery low it usually turns the tinted green red or blue. I think this is a flaw in fairness 25% battery like and it cuts off and thats with the nine cell i dread to think how a 6 cell would hold up im guessing dropped 40 or 50% and it would die

I have the same problem with mine. Restarting seemed to fix it though, and I'm almost positive this is something that was introduced after the major bios changes for the 130w. Before that update I never had this issue.
-
Finally someone else with this problem. A restart not fix it for me the battery had to be removed and hold power button for 20 seconds and then it was ok. Im just curious is this a problem that people are just dealing with or is it only some systems with this issue which dell cannot fix. Did you contact dell about this problem??
-
If you already have the 130w then I don't know what more you can do besides calling up Dell. I don't have an RGBLED screen myself.
If you remember which BIOS worked better for you, you can try going back (and then the OP can try the same BIOS). I've downgraded my BIOS a couple of times using this link and had no issues- http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/450888-up-downgrading-your-1645-bios.html -
I did call dell there replacing the system with a new one as i said above they cannot fix it. Seeing as the screen would tint Red Green or Blue im assuming it only affects systems with the rgbled screen. Did you try letting the battery run down yet?
-
I dont actually have the system now dell has it and im sure they will flog it off to someone else
-
Strangely, mine only exhibits this behavior when it's *really* low on battery, like less than 10%. Hmm.
-
ill bet if you run some heavy programmes like futuremark and i think your system will shut down well before it reaches 10%
-
Glad to hear yours is sorted mate. First time i sent mine back they tried to con me by replacing the rgb with a wled hoping i would not notice. I did not experience the problem with the wled but hey i payed for rgbled so i rang and they sent the tech out next day and put rgb back in. Problem back. Then i sent back again and they done somethin else said was fixed and wow then screen just goes blank under 25%. So now they say they cant fix and their giving me a replacement system. Im just curious why they could not fix my system by replacing parts. Because when you think about it they could change all the internal parts and leave the chassis and it would have to be fixed because it would technically be a new system.
???????? -
The thing is, mine doesn't shut down. I'm starting to wonder if it's also connected to Quickset, as I've had some other issues that are similar with the brightness control when it's on battery.
-
I have the same issue!!! putting laptop to sleep helps. It also happens when I'm adjusting the brightness of display and I'm on battery.
Sometimes its really frustrating. -
Mine also done it when adjusting brightness on low battery and sometimes the brightness would get stuck and i wouldnt be able adjust it up or down.
Did you send yours back to dell or contact them about the problem -
Yep same happened to me adjusting brightness i didnt try putting computer to sleep but a restart would not sort mine so i doubt that would.
Anyway this problem was not acceptable in my opinion i mean we payed a lot of money for these laptops they should be trouble free.Mine cost nearly 1500 euro. Im starting to think i should have bought an apple. Did you contact dell about this problem? -
I didn;t contact them - though the issue is easy to reproduce I try to avoid it and/or - put xps to sleep and reboot. for the most time it's would help. I need this thing for work and for school. I can't have a downtime.
-
This problem can be avoided but not all the time for me because if im running anything even a little demanding on battery the system will shut down once it goes under 25%. I would go and get it sorted if i were you mate. Theres no telling what future problems this might cause and once your warranty is up its nothin to do with dell anymore and i wouldnt like to be paying for a screen replacement or something. Have you got long left on your warranty?
-
Call dell and refuse to take the new system unless the new system also has the rgbled screen in it. They tried to replace mine with the wled when I called them for the problem. I told them I put serious money for the rgb so I better get what I paid for. So the guy finally found the correct part. The part number is: jfc9t This is for the red leather 16in rgbled. Tech came to the house and replace it. Screen works beautifully now, no problem with turning down brightness, even below 20% battery without power cord plugged in.
-
I said it to the tech 3 times to make sure the new system had the rgb screen that i had in the old one. By the end of the conversation he was getting annoyed talking about it and assured me my new system would have the rgb and exact same specs as my old one but with a 6gb ram instead of the 4gb i had. Funny how they made a mistake with you replacing the rgb with the wled!!! And i bet your system had not problems with the wled installed right?? Trying to pull a fast one is what they done to us and many others i bet. Did they really think we would not notice after paying and extra 250euro
-
yep 2 m years
-
Ah not a problem for you then i only took the standard 1 year warranty but im strongly thinking about upgrading it
-
I dont get what you mean... "jfc9t" ????
I experience screen turning off or green / pink etc below 20%.... So you guys basically say just replacing screen until its fixed? -
I had that happened yesterday to me, screen turned off but I could hear everything was still happening on the background. I turned computer off and the battery was not recognized anymore (screen was back).
Let the battery cool down for 10 odd minutes and it's now fine - but yeap, once the battery runs down I get my screen disappear too even though laptop is still on. -
Yes get it replaced. It fixed my exact same issue. The jfc9t is the part number the dell representative told me for the rgbled screen.
-
It might depend where you are.. googling that part number shows a page where it's listed as:
1 JFC9T Assembly, Liquid Crystal Display, 16FHD, Red, 1645/1647
When I check my order, it shows a different part number and details as per below.. it doesn't matter what my part number is because I can find different ones showing the exact same detail:
16.0"UltraSharp(TM) Full High Definition (1080p) RGBLED Display with TrueLife(TM) -
I just got my motherboard changed, I didnt check if the problem still exist, BUT i have now ATI 5700 Series instead 4670!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAPPPY!
-
Have you checked if your problem remains? I had my screen replaced (no mobo change) few days ago and it seems to have fixed this for me.
-
Im quit eusy and scared of testing, thought it did shut down once at about 10 percent or lower not sure. but no flickering or shutting down of the screen. illl test again when i finished my essay dont wann ruin my mood
battery under 25% problem
