hi guys, hope someone can help me here. Every time i turn on my laptop all i am getting is a blank screen on my laptop and my external monitor. i am thinking of replacing the motherboard as the graphics card is aparrently soldered to it.Before i do this could the problem be any thing other than the card? I tried running dells screen diagnostic using the beep sound but there are no sounds at all and i cannot see any warnings or errors as all i have is blank screens. Also if i change the motherboard when i switch it back on will i have video output straight away or will i have to configure anything first? Any more details needed please ask. cheers :)

It sounds like the graphics card is gone. If your normal warranty has expired, you are covered under an extended 1-year warranty, once you can demonstrate (or insist!) that it is related to 'the Nvidia issue'.

apparently so, as long as the laptop is exactly the same specs as when it was bought and you have all the original order details. I was talking to dell support and they siad that the extended warranty applied to all nvidia chips. Although i heard they only replace them with refurbished parts.Unfortunatley for me my laptop doesn't match up to the original order details.I have however bought a new motherboard and if any body has a link to step by step guide to changing this it would be much appreciated.

Unless you've voided the warranty by changing the thermal paste (or something similar), they can't deny you the extended warranty. I don't know what you mean by 'matching the original order details' ? What have you done to modify the laptop ? Because something like changing the HDD will not void your GPU warranty.

And they can not replace them with refurbished parts under Irish consumer law.

You need to get on the phone (and to someone in Ireland, not India) and stick up for your consumer rights.

I bought the laptop off a work colleague,He was emigrating to australia, i dont know whether he changed anything himself or maybe it was a refurb. The processor and hard drive are different now(i checked the tag no. on dells website) and i dont have the original order no or details so dell says that there is nothing they can do.I already have the new motherboard and while i have changed pc boards i have never done a laptop. My local computer store charged my brother 110 euro to clean his up with c.cleaner and are looking for 450 euro to buy and fit the motherboard.thanks guys!

hello again guys, just installed a new motherboard, booted up and just before my desktop appeared screen turned blue, no writing. when i run the screen diagnostic tests, all i get is a white then red the green then blue screen a few times and then the screen finall fades to black. the bios page flashed up a few times but was all fuzzy and dissapeared quickly, nothing happens on an external monitor and there are still no sound on the beep test. any ideas?
