I'm going to buy the new XPS15 (realizing it doesnt have a VGA port, im gonna hv to sell my 23" dell monitor though...)
anyway, should I buy it now? or wait till thanksgiving for black friday? I don't know if Dell usually gives better discounts on black friday or not... is it worth the wait?

you can buy a HDMI/VGA or DisplayPort/VGA adapter on ebay DP Display Port DisplayPort to VGA Converter Adapter on eBay!
or if you have DVI input (which is better) you may buy corresponding adapter. -
vovano that's not the right adapter. You're looking for mini displayport, which is the same ones there are on macbooks. mini displayports are patented by apple, etc.
mini displayport to vga items - Get great deals on Computers Networking, Electronics items on eBay.com! -
Thanks!!
So any of you guys know whether Dell usually holds a special discount on Black Friday? -
You can also check Dell's FB site, Twitter for any "hints", and of course signing up HERE for Dell e-mails & any promotions availi (meaning BF) to be e-mailed to you : )
I have also started a thread here, and will be updating it as soon as I get any information on any Dell BF deals.
Hope that helps!

Also, though, the thing to do is to configure the system you want with the best price you can come up with on line and then call and talk with a sales rep to get an additional discount. Like I said, the Black Friday web price was the lowest web price that I saw at any time of the year for my system. But, even with that Black Friday price, I called and got an additional $150 reduction in the price. -

Well, all of those are the wrong kind. You need a mini displayport, not just DP. There's a big difference.

OP, i don't think there will be much of a discount this Black Friday for the new XPS line. maybe $200 discount, but remember that Dell loves to juggle around configurations, so that $200 discount may actually end up being no different than if you bought it today.
e.g. your XPS 15 might be $1000 today after configuring to 6GB (from 4), but on Black Friday they might bump the RAM to 6GB and give you a $200 discount from $1200
that's just an example, but i could be way off base. that is how things work with Dell Canada.
and as for your side-topic of video cables, may i suggest this one:
NCIX.com - Buy ION Cables HDMI/DVI-MM-6 HDMI to DVI M/M 1.8M 6FT Digital High Quality Video Cable Sleeved - HDMI/DVI-MM-6-SL In Canada.
or something like it. you can get any cable of course, but at least with an HDMI-to- something cable you don't have to have that annoying DisplayPort headache that Apple has stirred up over the years (make up your mind Steve Jobs! pick a damn cable!)
it is HDMI <-> DVI-D cable. the nice part is it goes both ways, on my partner's desktop (which is now our HTPC) we can go from DVI from her video card to HDMI on the TV. and when we watch blu-ray DVDs from my 1645, we just swap ends, HDMI from my notebook to DVI-D on our TV (our TV has 1 each HDMI, DVI, VGA, component). and in case you're not familiar with the "-D" after the DVI (don't worry i didn't know about it for a while too), it means that hte cable can carry audio to the TV if your TV supports audio-over-DVI -
Bing Cashback has ended. Last year on BF it was at 20% which was a really nice advantage. There are other alternatives you can explore for $$ incentives back in your pocket. There is ebates. Link, and now this month, CB is double. Dell is at 4%. Also, if you use Bank of America for your banking they have a Add It Up program, and they are also doing a double CB = 4% back into your account : )
Just some more savings ideas, along w/BF! : )
