Hi. i'm looking to purchase an xps 1730, and would like some advice on several things:

Would it be better for me to pick win xp pro over vista? Will gaming/ SLI performance be better there?

Will there be an upgrade path to 8800ms later?

    thanks for any help.

Vista uses a more RAM memory then XP. I'll go with XP, there is no benefit from Vista still, it only takes more memory, which is important if you want to play games (although 1730 has 2GB DDR2, today is everything important).

Actually, when you say Vista ''takes'' a lot more RAM Those are prefetched files that improve performance. While Vista does use more RAM still without prefetching, 2GB is fine for gaming on Vista. You can always dual-boot so, you can have both.

You can wait for 8800, but to be fair, whats after 8800? This cycle continues every 3 months, you'll be chasing your tail forever.

Same for processors, OS's and games. Dive in the water is lovely.

i agree with that. i enjoy fps and stuff. but mainly, my concern is RTS like SC 2. If the 8700 x 2 can get me silky smooth frame rates for that. i'd be quite satisfied, seeing i'll be gluded to a single rts for maybe 2 years or so.
