Maybe, but with your card, there's no point in changing drivers often. It's best to find a stable driver and stick with it.

Yes, All Nvidia drivers work for all Nvidia graphics cards (all based on same architecture)
Its just when Nvidia releases a new driver, they generally restrict it to only work on desktop graphics cards (with the intention being that the laptop manufacturer would then release the driver with any required customisations)
To get 185.66 to work you just need to add two lines to the inf file.
I did it earlier and whilst I haven't thoroughly tested it, it does seem to give a fair performace boose (3dmark alone went up about 2-300 points) -
can i just download from the laptopvideo2go website and install it straightaway since the inf states as "already-modded"?
-
i just tried. can't. it states that drivers not found for this card.

You need to add these two lines to the inf file, to get the driver to install.
%NVIDIA_DEV_0427.01% = section003, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0427
NVIDIA_DEV_0427.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS"
You just place each of them with the particular group of lines that look the same. -
awesome! thanks! will do so now.

Its a pitty though that certain programs don't work with it.
CSS for example won't run with this driver. -
