hey all, I am looking at an XPS m1710 and was wondering if it can hold two harddrives? I would then build in two Hitachi Travelstar 100gig 7200rpm..

Unfortunately, it can only hold one hard disk, within the chassis. You can, however, use a 2.5" external hard disk. Alternatively, you could consider the HP DV9000T which can house two internal hard drives, but it has significantly less graphics power.

No it cannot. Other 17 inch notebooks that offer the option of dual hard drives include the HP Pavilion dv9000t and Fujitsu N6420.

I use an external 160Gb Western Digital Passport drive. It's slower (5400 rpm) but I use it only for storage.
What's nice is that it's USB-powered and very small, so I can easily carry it with me at all times.

I think that more and more people are going to start looking for laptops that can hold 2 internal drives (see SSD)

Who knows, perhaps the next generation XPS 17" will probably have it since Hewlett Packard and a few other brands offer two hard drive bays on their 17" models.
can the XPS M1710 hold two harddrives?
