Im running vista 64 home premium and want to use my upgrade discs to get to win 7. If i want to delete the recovery partition when do i do it? Is the best process to back up my files and then do a recovery back to vistas original state when i first got the machine and them delete the recovery partition? Then put in the win7 upgrade dvd? Can i merge the recovery partition with the main one in vista after to delete it?
Thanks

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
If the Dell upgrade disk is anything like the retail upgrade disks (which it should be... I think), it should let you do a clean install just by choosing the right options. You should backup your files, load the 7 disk, delete your old partitions (via the 7 installer) and just go from there.

Yup just did it the other day... just use it like you would your vista cd

So does it create a new recovery partition with Win7 installed?

Why does MS allow this? Aren't upgrade Discs cheaper? Or are the only available by showing proof of ownership of a prior OS?

Quoted from site:
"Method #1: Boot with the Upgrade Setup media
Many, many readers report that they have been able to simply treat the Windows 7 Upgrade media as if it were Full media, and that it just works. And you know what? It doesn't hurt to simply try this method, because if it doesn't work, you can then try methods 2 and then 3, in order, afterwards. There is no downside to trying this.
Here's what you do. Insert the Windows 7 Upgrade DVD in your PC's optical disc, reboot the computer, boot off the DVD, and then follow the steps to install Windows 7. If you are installing onto a computer that already has another version of Windows, be sure to back everything up first.
After Windows 7 is set up, and you've booted into the desktop, run Windows Update, download any pending updates, reboot as needed, and repeat until there are no more updates. Then, type activate in Start Menu Search to bring up the Activate Windows utility. Type in your product key and attempt to activate Windows." -
Worked on my end. The tip off was after Win7 was installed and all updates were done, I checked my C: drive and I didn't have the windows.old file folder, soooooo basically, I did a clean install of Win7 with an upgrade disc.

I have a XPS 1330 with Vista 64 and I have a Windows 7 upgrade which i had
preordered for $50.00. I tried to do a clean Install of Widows 7 64 bit Via booting from the disk the Install went smooth but I have windows.old file in my C: drive so did I really do a clean install or not? -
This is kind of a newb question, but is there a guide anywhere for the drivers that need to be downloaded after you install clean version of Windows 7 on a Studio XPS 16? I'm just not sure i'm going to know what I have to download to get everything back up and running? I want to do a clean install, and then get dell's drivers individually so I know exactly whats on my comp. My main problem is, in the Dell downloads section (aftering entering my service tag) there seems to be a lot of drivers for things my comp doesnt have, which is making it confusing to know exactly what I need to install.
