i have recently purchased an lg 42 inch lh3000 full hd 1080p tv to connect to my xps m1530. i have also just downloaded the newest driver for my 8600gt.
i have linked the two with a vga cable and my problem is that i cant get it to output 1920x1080 resolution even though other people seem to be saying it is possible.
in the nvidia control panel the highest resolution i can get the laptop screen to show is 1440x900 (the native screen resolution) and with the tv plugged in the highest it will take is this same resolution. i have tried using the 'add resolutions' but entering 1920x1080 just results in an error. the tv is definitely capable of taking this resolution so i dont know why this should be.
is there something im doing very wrong?! can the 8600gt actually manage resolutions that high?

    thanks very much

Well I think the real problem is just that you're using a VGA cable to link the two. Sometimes on TV's the VGA resolution is limited and cannot accept Full HD (1920 x 1080 resolution) signals.

What should work is to use an HDMI cable to get a full digital signal out and this should alleviate your problem. Works just fine using that on my own HDTV. Hope this helps.

i would agree most likely a cable issue. hdmi cable should fix it. you can get some really good deals on hdmi cables at newegg. i got a 3foot for under $10 that works great and a 15 footer for like $15

thanks for the replies guys. the frustrating thing is that other people using the same tv as me are able to connect their laptop with a vga cable and get 1920x1080. anyone here using a vga cable from their m1530 and getting this resolution?!
