i recently just received my black dell xps m1530 with the 9 cell battery and i'm looking into cooling options since i will be doing some moderate gaming. my sister has a dell xps m1330 and she is currently using the zalman nc-1000 cooler.

when i tested my 15.4" laptop on my sister's nc1000 i noticed it was a good fit BUT because i have a 9 cell battery it elevates the back of the laptop so there's a very visible triangular space (it's fairly large) between the laptop and the actual cooler, meaning the underside of the laptop is not in direct contact with the cooler.

therefore, i was wondering if there is a better cooling option out there and whether or not that space actually makes that much of a difference in cooling. if there isn't anyway to compensate for that space, then what's the best option for me?

    thanks in advance.

I used the 9 cell battery and played at a LAN party for 10 hours straight just using that and had no problems with heat issues. The gap that the 9 cell provided helped give the system fan ventilation that it needed to keep the system from overheating. :)

    Welcome to the forums.

As long as you are using the laptop on a table or other flat, hard surface, you shouldn't need a cooler.

And further, you probably shouldn't be gaming with your battery in, given how hot the M1530's run stock. That's killing your future battery life.

Except the wifi card gets a bit hot and no one seems to know why, that shoudn't affect your games though.

What I tell everyone. It is rare you use your cooler with a battery just take the freaking thing out. Problem solved. When you need to charge it do it when your browsing the web so there isnt much heat generated.

i plan on undervolting, but i still have some questions about the gaming with battery issue. i'm still new to laptops (this is my first laptop ever) so i was wondering if i really just take out the battery pack and leave it plugged in. doesn't it leave quite a big opening where the battery is supposed to be? is that ok? and if i'm undervolting, should i do it with the battery pack in or is it better to do it with the pack out? sorry for the questions :x

Leaving the battery out is pretty much a non-event. There really wont be any circulating air where the battery was so you shouldn't harm anything.
