Hi,
recently i have freshly installed my vista ultimate operating system. today when i was trying to copy a file from my F drive to I drive it gave me warning "Destination Folder Access Denied". then curiously i tried to another drive and found that all of the drive is restricted. i require to do couple of more click to copy or transfer files from one to another. how can i get rid of this problem and why it's happening?
NB: I have got 7 partitions. C is for windows.
I have attached a screenshot

from the error looks like you are copying into a folder using a user that dont have access on it, hence the system is asking for an admin bypass or password. have you checked the permissions in the destinatoion folder after receiving the errors?
-
-
does the system ask you to enter the admin password?
-
i was able to simulate your issue, and can confirm that you are copying into a directory that your current user or the user you are using to copy the files over dont have permission to write into the folder. a solution is add your current user to the permission list of the folder before you restart your copy process

i didn't quit understand u mate (pchan).
-
Even i checked my user account. i am Administrator as i can see there. so what could possibly the wrong with this computer?
-
Even though you are an admin, process by default only have standard user rights. Make sure the "User" group has Modify rights.
There is a misunderstanding that all processes launched by an admin account are given admin rights. That is not the case starting in Vista. Nor is that the case in any other modern OS. -
so what shall i do? can u give me step by step guide plz. and i haven't had this problem b4. how come i got this annoying problem after freshly installed operating system this time?
-
Cause it has nothing to do with the OS.
Right click the folder you are copying to. Select the Security Tab. Make sure the User Group is listed and has Modify rights.
If the above doesn't make any sense at all, just post a SS of the Security tab. -
i m not just bothering to copy a file only. i want my whole system to b normal. cause any kind of file, movie, song whatever i want to transfer from one partition to another i get this annoying message.
-
When you are copying a file, what will cause the UAC prompt are File permissions. In this case it it likely permissions on your destination folder. It's likely only the partitions you made are affected.
This is why I asked for a Screenshot of the Security Tab if the previous post didn't make sense. Obviously it didn't make sense, so just post a screenshot of the Security Tab.
If this was system wide, you'd be experiencing this problem elsewhere. But you aren't.
Also not, reinstalling your OS will not fix this problem. Disabling UAC will likely make the problem go away though. I can't be for sure til I see a screen shot. -
here is the attachment of security tab of E drive

Hello surfasb, i need ur attention plz.
-
I totally forgot about this thread. Make sure the System account has full control.
The User group needs Modify, Read & Execute, Write. -
I m sorry can u clear me bit more. sorry for my ignorance. i really don't know which drive shall i do it or shall i do it from control panel? plz help me more clearly.
-
From that same tab, click edit. Then select SYSTEM. Check the Full Control box.
Click Users. Check the boxes for Modify, Read & Execute, Write.
You'll need to do this for all your other partitions. Basically any partition that doesn't contain the Windows folder. -
Hi mate, finally i have figured out what caused this annoying problem. actually when i installed xp i formated all the drive one by one. then i installed vista. that's why this problem happened. now i again format them under vista and it works fine. just d drive access is restricted as i couldn't format it because xp os is installed there. thanx anyway for ur assistance.
-
Heh, I would of recommended that earlier if I'd had known that those partitions were expendable.
But ya, my way was just a slower way of doing the same thing you did. -
but today i have got a BSOD, i don't know if it is related with this issue. i m going to attach the screen shot. can u help me plz..

That is a driver that doesn't crash very often.
Any other changes to your system we should be aware of? -
but i used to get a lot of this sort of BSOD b4, and that's why i have reinstalled the OS. which driver is that. i have installed intel info from the dell website. even though more update is available.
-
It's a pretty basic driver. Sounds like a hardware issue. Is it random or does it happen during gaming, or does it happen during....... etc etc.
-
when i leave my laptop on. i have got a 3D screen saver (deep space 3d screen saver). 20mnts time it starts running. and 30mnts time disply turns off. this is the normal situation. so once i come back home i got my laptop off. so it could be bcz of them. i dont knw for sure. plz help me. if u want to knw anything more just ask me.
-
Does it crash while you are gaming?
I wish I knew a GPU stress test program off the top of my head.
On another note, try Prime95 and see if it BSOD while stress testing.

My first hunch was your GPU, but I'd like to make sure. -
I never run any dedicated games. sometimes i play DXBall or Pool. but these r also very rare case.
and for the Prime95, i have run it for the whole day long for stress test. i haven't got any BSOD. below is the the screenshot.Attached Files:

hi surfasb, where r u? did u see the screen shot?
-
It only crashes during the screen saver?
-
I don't know exactly when it crashes. did u check the screen shot of that stress test. i ran for 8hrs and didn't get any BSOD. anyway, last night i left my laptop on and in the morning found it to b restarted. that means there was BSOD at night. i opened a new thread and include all the result from blue screen viewer. plz help me to detect the problem.
-
Yeah, i'll check out the new thread.
I suspect it is a hardware problem, but I'm not familiar with the Studio 1530s to narrow it down. I'm more of a software guy.
I hope the new thread is in the Dell Studio or Gaming forums. -
Mine is not a studio. it's dell xps m1530. and there is no hardware problem as i have run all the test. could b from RAM. i m not sure. the new thread is not in gaming or anywhere else. it's in this section named help me plzz.
copying and transfering problem in m1530
