I'm looking to upgrade the cpu on my xps m1730. I'm looking at the x9000. I see some of the x9000s are labeled differently, such as with an "SLAQB." while other x9000s don't have that marking. Do I need to find a specific X9000?

Any will work. The differences is that some are engineering samples, and other are resale units. Buy whichever one you can find cheapest. I got mine on eBay a few months back when I was restoring my m1730.
