dell boned me on the xps 15 1080p!

i ordered a 1080p B+RGLED, and they are shipping it with a WLED 1080p... even dell said the resolution was better onthe BRG...

he said i could order a new laptop today, and when the WLED gets here, i could send it back... but i'd have to spend $3200 for the two laptops total, and wait for the other one to credit back.

even tho i ordered a SSD HDD which takes an extra week, they still cannot install the right screen before it ships..?

so i can get $150 rebate if i choose to keep the WLED

opinions? should i wait another month for a laptop that says B+RGLED instead of WLED, or should i keep my WLED for the $150?
the 1080p upgrade was only $195, so i'm almost getting it free at this point..

so then i called "dell parts" and played like i wanted to purchase ... oh say part # 320-1763 for an XPS 15..

he said it's a 720p WLED screen

1. not a 1080
2. not a B+RGLED

see the thing is when i ordered it, it did say WLED... pcmag.com said B+RGLED was no longer an option (right after they tested it, labelled it the year'sbest laptop, then they saidthe magical 1080p is not an option)

so i ordered... disappointed but content with my purchase...
the nextday, however, it turns out.... ding ding ding B+RGLED isback!same price!

it magically just switched on dell.com, but didn't magically just switch on the laptop i ordered the day before.

so now i'm on hold, waiting for parts to pick the phone back up.. and it's been quite a while on hold..

 

Keep in mind that the B+RGLED is in fact just a fancier WLED, it is not an RGBLED display. So it may be alright.
Just check the hardware id in the device manager when you recieve it to make sure its the same as what everyone else is getting, if its not then demand a replacement system/screen.

Just found that you have sorted it, your part number is for the 1080p B+RGLED

ok so the final story became:

i eventually did get one of them reps to admit. i gave my spiel including my order number blah blah.. and said ok, tell me what, in my order details, display is listed. and she, just as my order details i was emailed, says: "320-16731 5.6FHD TLF WLED LCD L501X "

WLED.

so i said yes, that's right. my order details confirm that.

now.

tell me what dell.com says.

and she said: "it says the same thing; Silver Anodized Aluminum 15.6" FHD (1080p) B+RGLED Display with Facial Recognition and 2.0 MP webcam "

and i was like, WRONG! you said B+RGLED just now, but you initially concluded i had a WLED.

so she said well what do you wanna do?
1. you can cancel (believe this) FOUR HOURS after you place the order; I DIDN'T GET THE ORDER DETAILS FOR OVER 24 HOURS AFTER I CLICKED BUY. how was i to know it was wrong and cancel within four hours?

so i say: let's go back. was WLED really wrong?

she didn't really respond.

moving forward. let's cancel.

she is now magically able to cancel the order, and we can order another here on the phone, if it's without paypal as originally.

or youcould just order on dell.com whenever.

so i go to dell.com; the i5 has gone from a i5-460m to a ie-480m! what the hell does that mean, ask i her over the phone??

she doesn't know.

so i decide to attempt to order a 1080p B+RGLED screen again.. order details the same... WLED.. so now are on the phone right this second, and we will see what they say about this WLED vrs. RBGLED . i have seen chat on the internet about there being two different technologies, WLED (as is the 720p standard model of this laptop) and the RGBLED other claim are better, etc.

and is what's claimed on the website, not on sunday, but yes on monday and tuesday.

I have confirmed that even though it says WLED for the 1080p on the invoice, the part number matches that of the B+RG on the main site. They just didn't specify so much into detail on the invoice.

well this other guy informed that that i mistook a true RGBLED in this instance; B+RG is evidently sales pitch for WLED but "better" orsomething i stopped reading.

so when it said B+RGLED i thought it meant what evidently pcmag claimed was truely an RGB LED

but still between sunday and tuesday, the i5 has changed to:

from the purchase order details on sunday:

I'm in the same boat as you. On the invoice it shows WLED, but when I give Dell the Part Number there telling me it's 1080p B+RGLED. It seems it's just a typo on there end.

 

What's the difference between the i5-460 and i5-480? Why would they change processors?

 

theres almost no difference, the 480m has one extra multiplier, thats it.
480m is better, although i dont think it actually exists???

Right. The invoice (email or printed) is sometimes "imprecise" in terms of wording. So is the parts list stuck to the shipping box. It is best to verify the part number and also what is reported by such programs as CPUID or HWiNFO32 running on the laptop itself.

 

There's no such thing as B+RG. B+RG is NOT RGB LED. It is WLED with higher CG which is comparable to RGB LED. You actually got what you paid for.

 

If it says 15.6 FHD you're getting what you paid for. Otherwise 15.6HD or 15.6HD+ usually refers to the lower resolution

 

In light of this info, I called Dell to either change my order on the grounds that they replaced the 460m with the 480m just a few days after my order but they said that they would have to cancel production and start all over again. So they offered me a reimbursement for a total of $30 and I took it. Overall I paid $803 ($833-30) for the following specs and felt pretty satisfied with the outcome.

I think there are only two specific kind of LED screen: WLED and RGB LED...As you wont be able to find any specific term like B+RG LED (as dell mentioned)

whatever other types of full HD LED screens from Dell (B+RG LED) and Sony (XBrite ECO, HiColor) are just type of same WLED screen with some different specification...
