Anyone comment on their frames with the bf3 beta? im 80% downloaded.

Uhh Battlefield 3's requirements on ultra are pretty high. People were complaining with a GTX 580 on 1080p ultra couldn't get above 70-80 fps on the closed beta, and the retail release is supposed to add more.
The GT540M benchmarks worse than a desktop GT240.. -
I'm getting between 30-35fps on medium at 1366x768 on xps 15 with i7 2630qm and 2gb gt540m
-
There's a lot of debate as to whether BF3's "ultra" settings are even properly functional. Wait and see on that front, but the XPS won't really be able to play on ultra, that much is sure. It's not meant to.
I won't get into how 80fps is more than enough...but I agree a 580 ought to do better. -
-
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
The problem wasn't 80 FPS but that the retail version will add alot more "stuff" and that 80 might drop even lower.
I don't understand why EA had such a high hardware requirement for BF3, most people's hardware is not going to play it above medium.
Owning a GTX 580, I don't want to see any numbers below 100 (and I almost never do for the games I play, TF2 is @ 299 fps average 1080p max settings, SC2 plays ultra with no sweat). -
100 fps on a 60Hz screen? What's the point?
-
k i finally got to playing it and it defaulted to 1080p mostly high and medium..........def very laggy with those settings like 20 frames. backed it off to medium and 720p and its getting better maybe 30 frames or so. Going to try low now.

autodetected me to 1080p with medium settings... ran OK, but ir want high graphics so dropped it to 720p, put effects and environment details (can't remember the actual name of the setting) to high, fsaa off and post process aa on high to smooth things out
runs around the 30fps+ mark, doesn't seem to drop below - shame VSYNC doesn't work yet
alternatively can put it at 900p with everything on medium and post process aa on medium, still looks and runs fine... oh and i just disabled motion blur as it's annoying -
my computer freezes almost instantly now....... i think its an optimus problem since the computer is still working just the game locking up cuz i can pull up task manager to end the process to exit the game.

There are a ton of random crashes being reported about this game, it is highly likely your issue is similar. There's a reason for the "beta" label after all...
-

I have no real problem running the settings on ultra. Although my max screen res is 900p. I will look into getting FPS numbers later but I can say that is is pretty smooth.
-
I have everything on medium i have i5 2520 with geforece 540m dell l502x.
I have a feeling its running on the integrated card. Is there a way i can see what gpu is being used? thank you -
Metro seems to run fine for me but Caspian border on the other hand I get this:
BF3 - Caspian Border - Graphic issues (low settings) - YouTube
1600x900 on low puts out decent frames and the graphics are OK. -
Well here is a screen shot with everything pretty much as high as it can go except a few things such as AA but overall it runs smoothly between 20-30FPS so while it isn't getting awesome numbers, on high it is holding its own and is very playable.

I played on the beta this morning and I have gotten a clip done of it:
XPS L701x - Battlefield 3 Beta gameplay - YouTube
Overall 30+ FPS at 1600*900. Very nice. -
I have 1 question .
Whot program you use to recording this video ? -
How are you guys getting temp readings and fps in game?
-
And All work very good . No artefacts etc.
My BF 3 settings is : 1600x 900 120 Hz Textures Quality High , others settings Medium , AA x4 . I have 42-57 fps , and in my opinion is the best settings for multiplayer FPS . I can't play for >40 fps . But its my opinion .
GPU temp is 70-72 C .
Edit .
I forget .
Dell xps 17 l702x
CPU - 2630QM
GPU - Gt555m OC
Ram memory 6 gb . -
-
I play on 1600x900 with everything on medium, AntiAliasing Post on low and Anisotropic Filter x4.
And I am using the latest Nvidia beta driver that is optimised for BF3. -
Anyone find that it is hard to OC the 550M with the latest driver? I have to stay at 675/970. Any higher and BF3 doesnt run or my driver crashes. It is no overheating. I have not tried OC'ing this high with the older drivers so I do not know if it is the new driver or just my luck when it comes to computer parts.
-
considering people with desktop 460s aren't able to smoothly play the game on ultra I'm not too sure about this -
You OC Gpu for this settings : 800/1600/1100 ?
I get outside around 32-45 , inside Metro i get 42- for some place 55 . Results around 45 . I use msi afterburner to see FPS , and maybe isn't true results :/ -
agree with the OP, have got my card O/Cd, new beta drivers etc - I play on 720p with a mix of med and high and I don't get that fps
something iffy -

As the beta is now ending I thought I'd share the settings I'd settled on...
BF3 was really annoying me, performance on the l702x (overclocked and with the new nvidia bf3 beta drivers) was a lot lower than what I'd expected until I messed about with the settings
anyway - leaving on "auto" settings and dropping to 1600*900 actually works just fine but messing about a bit produced better results.
Actually, a lot of the settings (in my eyes anyway) didn't make a noticeable difference, and the performance change from low-ultra @ 1600*900 isn't exactly amazing... in fact, on caspian border at 1080p on ultra settings you still manage to get about 10+ FPS (not exactly playable... but still) ... and that's virtually doubled if you disable FSAA and MLAA,
anyway - I digress
the single biggest performance hitter ended up being ambiant occlusion, and while it may give added soft/self shadowing to objects I just couldn't justify the 7-10fps-ish hit with SSAO or 15fps-ish hit with hbao, especially on a map like Caspian Border where there's a LOT going on at one time... I'm not going to take time out to lick the self-shadowed trees.
basically I ended up playing at 720p, with all the detail-type settings on "high" FSAA off, post process AA on low to smooth out the lower res image slightly, texture filtering on x8 and ambiant occlusion off
this basically meant the game not dropping below 40fps on metro or 30fps on caspian, even when things got busy. While some may want a higher resolution image I quite like the FPS payoff of a lower res, especially as it's being played with most settings on high.
so yeah - my tip would be, for the multiplayer at least just disable ambiant occlusion for a massive fps boost. -
Did you notice that you are unable to OC as high with the new drivers? I cannot OC my 550m over 675 without it failing when I play games.
I did not try OCing this high before the beta drivers so I do not know if it is the drivers or just my graphics card. -
the driver IS beta though - and was released quickly to just support the bf3 beta, official drivers released closer to the time + bf3 being optimised through day1 patches and suchlike should provide performance increases. -
Hi all,
I had a go with the BF3 Beta and was very happy with the way it looked and ran, except the crashes and freezes! I installed the Beta R285 drivers as recommended and the crashes stopped, but left me with a new problem....
Now my L502x seems to be throttling to a crazy degree, not even keeping up with text as I type, peaking every 20 seconds or so with a lock up and a weerrhh of fans.
Anyone else experienced this in general use with the new drivers? I accept they are only beta drivers, but I'm worried that I'll have to choose between a driver set that runs BF3 with stability but throttles everything else, and a system that runs everything else but crashes BF3. I would rather have both!
Oh, it's an L502x i7 2630qm, 6gb, Geforce 540m.
PS I liked BF3 very much, but can't help but think that the more graphical detail and texture that is added, the harder it is to focus on shooting the damned enemy! -

Hey everyone,
Seeing as how a number of people with XPS L502Xs have gotten a good look at BF3 Beta, my question is, how much better can playing at 720p with the 1333x768 screen help the game vs. playing at 1600x900 with the 1080p screen. 10-15 FPS ? 20 ?
Anyone with a settings list for possible smooth gameplay ?
(Note: With the i7 2.2GHz & GT 525M)
@Amberama, hope someone here can help out =)
