My children have dropped my XPS M1530 and cracked the screen back assembly right through just above the hinge.Dell won't replace it under my warranty, but I see that I can buy a replacement back from ebay for a reasonable price and I have found a youtube video that talks you through fitting it ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3b5WCvfHM4).
However, one of the ebay screen backs states:
How can I find out whether I have ccfl or lcd backlight? I got the cheapest screen on offer at time of buying if that helps.
thanks
Mark

The CCFL screen is considerably thicker than the LED screen. It was also considerably cheaper as well, so you probably have the CCFL screen.

Reference this post for a picture of the size comparison (between the M1330, but M1530 is same basically)

thanks kozzney, I do have the CCFL one, I eventually managed to find the part of the DELL site that shows me my config:
- DISPLAY 15.4" WXGA (1280X800) WITH TRUEL
- CCFL BACKCOVER BLUE & 2.0MP CAMERA
