I am having a problem with data transfer via eSATA port on my laptop.
Having read many posts on issues with this relatively new interface I contacted Dell and was assured that they were addressed in the new bois.So I went ahead and purchased a drive with this in mind , but it does not allow data transfer from the computer to the drive ( it will go about 30%-50% of file@29-70 mbps then just stall and the drive disappears.) I know the pipeline is open because as I said I can see the drive and access the drive,I can even transfer from the drive to the computer ( not at 300 mbps ) but it works .I have read that you need to enable AHCI in the bois, but I have
no idea how to do this , or if it is even necessary in Vista. thanks for the reply .

You're BIOS is updated? And do you have the latest eSATA drivers and maybe Intel Chipset drivers as well?

I had a similar problem and had to use my USB enclosure in the end.

Something a bit dodgy about the eSATA ports on this chipset I think.

    Drive detection is also terrible.

I've seen the same problem even with AHCI enabled in the bios. This was Vista with Matrix 8.8 drivers.

That said I'm now running Windows 7 and Intel Matrix 8.9 drivers so I should really test the eSata again.

I gave this a shot , installed intel download manager then (//x-drivers.ru:8080/drivers/sata/intel/www.x-drivers.ru_intel_intem_msm_8.8.2.1001 . The computer went a little nuts , shutdown on its own a few times
gave me some problems with system restore , ran diagnostic in boot.error. 0f00:/133c. Had to restore from safe mode.
All this for an eSATA cable.
