What is this exactly? I'm planning on buying an external enclosure for my spare 3,5" SATA HDD, and I'd like to get one that uses the eSata interface. Now I heard these need seperate power supplies sometimes...
Is this not required when I use the powershare port? Will that one supply enough power to run the HDD?

Powershare has nothing to do with eSATA. I'm assuming you're getting them confused because of the USB/eSATA Powershare port on the 1645. Powershare merely means that any USB device plugged into that slot can draw juice from it even after the computer is off. Power can never be delivered on an eSATA cable.
