hi all
i am planning to buy a satato esata hdd enclosure for faster speeds but my 1530 doesnt have an esata port
what hardware will i need for connecting esata to my lappy. i saw various usb, expresscard dongles, but I dont know if transfering the signal from one form to another will reduce the speed. also, will the usb converter be much slower than the express card ?? should i ditch the idea of esata and get a firewire enclosure, coz if the speeds dont increase, esata is a waste of money

sesshomaru Suspended Disbelief!
Express Card banwidth- 2.5 Gbps
eSATA Bandwidth- 3.0 Gbps
USB 2.0 Bandwidth- 480 Mbps
IEEE 1394b (FireWire) - 800 Mbps
IEEE 1394a - 400 Mbps
Given that your connector on the 1530 is probably 1394a, the eSATA interface beats it by a long, long margin...
Use an express card eSATA adapter.. This is what I have been using... -
The eSATA adapter would be your best bet.

Thanks a lot guys
but there was a serious problem...the enclosures with esata ports were unavailable at my place...so i got a 500gb sata drive and a sata to usb enclosure..
i am confused abt this...i think the express card adapters require an input as esata chord, right, I cant connect the sata of my hdd to the express card na
??
i read wikipaedia too but still i dont understand what exactly is the diff between sata and esata, theoretically and in the different connectors

eSATA is just external SATA. It would be the same as if there was a SATA hard drive in your computer.

Thanks for the reply
ohh so u mean that i can connect this sata hard disk to the express card mentioned above and it will give me the esata transfer rates?? other than above i wont need other hardware right?? (except the sata hdd which i bought)

No, you need an enclosure for eSATA. That port is just for the data. You still need power for the drive.

sorry for all the confusion. I will describe everything in details, so that u might b able to solve my problem.
I have bought a hard disk enclosure (which has an external power adapter), in which I have fitted my sata hard disk. Now, I have a USB dongle coming out of my enclosure which I have plugged into my lappy. It doesnt have any other kind of output port just, the USB port.
Now, my question is that if i want to utilize the esata transfer feature, what all hardware will i need apart from the above i have described. Also, I tried to search for the express card in india, but couldnt find it , if nebdy from india has bought it pls share the contact.
