    Hello, i have a question:

Do you think it is worth getting XPS 16 with 500GB HDD, swithing it with Intel 160GB SSD and using 500 HDD as external? (Intel SDD would cost ~180 pounds)

Or is it better getting Samsung 128 GB SSD preinstalled, which would cost 30 pounds?

    summary, what would you choose:

    a) 160GB Intel SSD and external 500GB external HDD for 180 pounds

    or

    b) 128GB Samsung SSD for 30 pounds?

    Thanks for the opinions.

I have seen lots of info on the 256gb SSD, what is the performance of the 128gb version like?

Really tempted to get one and 128gb would be enough storage for me.

Fair enough. I download all my HD bits and bobs so an HDD makes much more sense.

Performance between the 256GB and 128GB versions of this drive are about the same. I think the 64GB version is actually noticeably slower, but it's still not something you'd notice on a day to day basis.

Currently I'd spring for an Intel or Indilinx drive over this generation of Samsung drives, though. They're more or less around the same price per unit capacity and you're going to get at least two or three times the random write speed, which is the limiting factor in most of these drives.

If cost is important, get the 128GB SSD and buy a 500GB HDD. It will be significantly cheaper than getting the 500GB HDD then buying the Intel.

Thats not the problem. If Dell would offer Intel's SSDs i would just take it and thats it. But now as it offers Samsung, i want to change it to Intel SSD, and the best way of doing that is taking the cheapest offered HDD and change it later... (unless Dell would give me laptop without HDD, which is probably not possible :))
