Long term I would say to make sure it does not get overheated... make sure you do not obstruct the fan vent underneath and in the back...

    1) make use of ur 3 yr warranty :D

if u didnt get the 9-cell, try to use something to prop up the back if on a desk.. im using two clips to 'slope' the back, so that
    1) better typing
    2) better cooling

Can't believe a Dell XPS would need propping up to stop it overheating (i know this is just a precaution) when my Acer Craptop is fine sitting flat ;)

I think you should be okay with it flat or raise it at the back for the typing angle. I personally use external keyboard and mouse always when at my desk at home.

I want an XPS soon but waiting to get a good deal. Dell aren't willing to play ball even though the new XPS range should be out in the next month or two hehe.
