Just as the title says... When I recieved my xps, my screen had a ton of dust/debris in between the plastic cover and the lcd. I called dell and they set up a service call. Is taking off the screen a very involved process? will my laptop still be the same once they put it back together? anything I should ask the tech to do to make sure he doesn't mess it up?

I had mine replaced....they do have to take a lot of parts off/out to do it but it wasn't anything really crazy. The tech I had was very knowledgable and took his time so he didn't damage anything. If you are really worried just watch and make sure he gets all the screws back in.

Hey there!
Don't worry....The Tech will take good care of your lappy!
They replaced my Motherboard nearly a year ago..and did an excellent job!
Meaning, they should be able to do an efficient job in replacing your screen, as I've been told..that is one of the things they do on a regular basis!

Most tech's Dell outsources to are fairly competent. But you should keep on an eye on him just in case he does scratch or damages something so you can report it to Dell.

Yet another bothersome case of SXPS 16 screen with stuck dust particules. Personally, that's the single most annoying issue with this laptop, by far. A huge disappointment from Dell.
As for the screen replacement, it's a relatively involved process. It's surprising how many parts need to be removed before the display panel can be detached from the laptop. If I were you, I would make sure the tech follows carefully the cable routing when putting all back together.
(I had sent my first SXPS to the depot for screen replacement due to dust and stuck pixels out-of-the-box. A month later, the laptop wasn't repaired still. So they decided to replace it with a new one. I'm glad how it turned out. My current one (the replacement) has some dust close to the edges but not too annoying. Hope it won't get worse with time...)
getting my xps 1640 screen swapped out today, should I be worried about the tech?
