I've installed a Dell 5530 WWAN card in my XPS 1330, installed the Drivers in R198215.EXE and installed the mini 9 version of control point R198215.EXE

placed my t-mobile sim in the sim holder behind the battery, and surprise surprise complete success, it connects to 3G no problems !!! Very happy

But - when i go to enable the GPS chip - i get a weird error -

It says " if LTO: LTO data is missing, Connect to internet to download LTO data"

    anybody have any ideas ?

You probably need to update your AGPS first. go to setting > connections > GPS to download the almanac and lto data.

You may have to add a GPS software application. There's a list of free programs here:

    hi, i have a mini 9 with 3g enabled.

like you i also got the lto data missing error.

but i managed to get it to stream nmea data with hyperterminal, so i know it works, so maybe the wireless manager is buggy?

    any suggestions?

    Hi,

when I am trying to unpack those files (only 2 and 3), I get error message, that the files are corrupted (gps\d553gps.sys from 2nd file and gps\d553gps.cat from 3rd file). I tried to concatenate those 3 files too (COPY /B), but the message still.

    How you unpacked those files?

Has anyone *actually* managed to get the GPS working on the M1330 ? I have used the Driver enclosed and have managed to get the GPS installed and seen on Com6, tried a few ways to turn on the GPS (gpsswitch software from dell mini forum, Mini 10 and 12 software etc...) But have not managed to get it work - not that i think that the 1330 antennas are capable of receiving GPS signal....

OK I used winrar v 3.8 to unpack files once downloaded I right click onto file1 and extact to a location of my choice then all 3 files will or should extract into 1 folder with both 32 and 64 bit versions.

Just to confirm - you have the 5530 card - WWAN works, and so does the GPS component ? earthbridge actually see the MEMEA data and identifies your location ?

Yes thats all right my friend, the earthbridge lunch the Googleearth and show me my location also when i am moving it moves, but the only problem i notice that it takes time at the begining to detect the GPS signle and to find my location, can anybody guess why or is it normal ?

I uninstall all the drivers for the Dell 5530 from my XPS M1330 then i install the drivers given by iovf in the second page, then i install Ericsson Application R198215.exe, everything works fine WWAN and GPS but the only thing is the delay to detect the GPS signle and find the location.

Hi, I followed the instructions you posted we a strange result.

If I install Dell drivers I get the card installed, but no GPS device listed among the ports.
If I manually install the modified drivers from here, I'm able to get the GPS device appear.
If I reboot, everything disappears and I have to start over.

    any ideas?

    Update:
If I don't uninstall the Dell drivers after the installation of the modded drivers, the device drivers are kept after reboot.
This means that when I launch Ericsson Wireless Manager AT LEAST I don't get the error "no LTO data" when I try to interrogate the GPS.
Now, I can push on "GPS on", but nothing happens... It keeps saying that GPS Status and GPS Mode are "disabled"... still after 10 minutes.

    Any more hint?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I use windows XP on my m1330

Since we don't know which files your on about it's best to go back and read up on how to enable this.

    But try this below

    First off,

thx to all for the invaluable info - I now have WWAN and GPS on my 1330 :notworthy:

Secondly, I mentioned elsewhere that I wasn't thrilled with the idea of overwriting up-to-date drivers (Dell's "A07" package, Dec 2008 driver ver 4.50.6.0) with " Carolina's" Aug. 2008 drivers (4.48.1.9001).

However... the only "device" that needs to be over-written is the USB "Device" entry under the USBC section and of course, the "new" device entry, namely the "GPS Port" device (Ports section).

Thus, although I'd still like to get my hands on newer drivers, I'm more relaxed now that I know not all devices need to be overwritten ;)

EDIT: I found a set of "un-packed" A07 drivers over at MyDellMini and manually updated the USB and GPS devices to 4.50.6.0 and 1.0.0.29 respectively.

@traveller happy you got it all up and running bro.
Yes this is correct about the method you stated about install of GPS drivers, for me I found this method well after I got mine up and running on the same state along with the Dell community forum. There were some newer drivers which I took from the Studio series not so long ago.
@the moment I have no 3Gmobile I had pay as you use package.
Any issues I'll try and address them for you or an one else.

    Thx again :)

Actually, I did have a more generalized question; is Earthbridge still interesting now that GoogleEarth includes their own GPS plugin...?

I kind of like Earthbridge's GPS-status tab which shows all the satellites tracked. On the other hand, it hasn't been updated in over three years... :-/

But anyways, it would be interesting to hear what everyone around here uses... :)

EDIT: Btw, the XPS 1330's WLAN was attached to two cables (solid black & solid white), although the WLAN card also has provision for a third cable connection (the card has the connection colored as grey). I used the grey-striped white & black cables for the WWAN card. Finally, there's a light-blue cable left over... any idea what it's for... :-?

EDIT²: Answered in this thread, the blue one's for wireless USB

Btw, I think this problem's even worse then we thought; while doing some testing I simply "stopped" the GPS function (via the Dell-Ericsson Wireless Manager App) and when I restarted, it couldn't find a lock again.

I know this is an issue with the drivers / App. as I had my GPS-equipped cell (Mobile) on at the time and it was still locked... .

So you say that simply "disabling & re-enabling" the 5530's "Port" device is enough? I didn't think of that and rebooted my Notebook which is of course an extremely annyoing solution...

Which drivers are you using for Windows 7 64 bit, on XPS M1330 ?
I can see that Dell had relesed on 23/10/2009 the driver for 5530 card, it is R243926 for windows 7, but I can't extract it to XPS M1330.
How can I extract those drivers from this file, and instal them manually ?
