    525M and 2630qm
    stock speed getting 500,
    overclocked to 550M speeds (740/1000) got 603
    Temps hit 80 degrees

The SXPS with 5730 at 733/1000 got 697
    SXPS stock was 597.
    Temps hit 68 degrees

Something is not right. Those 2 cards should be equivalent.

3Dmark06 scores sounds about right, if you ran them at default.

My 425m OCed to 790/1060 got 92xx with default setting. Your scores are normal in 3Dmark06, if not better than mine if you OCed to the same clock.

525m is rated several slots lower than the 5730 on Notebookcheck's list, the 540m (at stock speeds) is more equivalent to the 5730.

Those scores look about right for the nVidia card. Remember, it is pretty much the same card as the 420m/435m.

I understand but the 525M, 540m and 550m all use the same core. Only the speed they run the core is different. So, I expect the 525M at 670/900 to match the 5730 in furmark and it doesn't. It does match it in 3dmark though.
At 550m speeds, the 525m actually moves ahead even beyond the overclocked 5730 but it still can't match it in furmark. Is the ATI card just better at furmark?

Are you sure that Furmark is using the Nvidia card and not the ATI card?? There is some problems with that in certain applications, regardless of which card you tell it to use.

i just tried furmark at 720p and got 543 temp 92C (stock 540m, 2630qm) thats not much more than your 525m and lower than your SXPS :( or is 43pts a significant difference in furmark?

i have both an sxps 1645 and an xps 15. 43 point is like 10% so it looks significant. What gets me is that on the sxps the gpu never went over 68 degrees even when overclocked. on the xps it routinely hits 80. As far as I know, furmark os opengl and 3dmark06 is directx. So, it looks like nvidia cards are better at directx and worse at opengl, at least that's my observation
