when i woke up this morning one half of my screen was white and the other side was pretty dark. So I decided to turn the computer off and kept it off for 30 mins. When I started it back up the backlight seemed fine but it still looks kind of dim on the left side. How do I make sure/ or test that my backlight is working fine?

The ccfl light is dying on your screen.

How comfortable are you taking apart both the laptop and LCD?

Only 5 months old and it died?

Based on what you described it sounds like 2 but I always though 2cffl was reserved for larger screens.

Replacing the screen is a bit difficult. If your not comfortable with it, get it repaired by dell.
