    No, I believe they use a newer updated kind of connector

    so the new i7 chips wont fit into the old dell studio 16s cuz they have new hyper thread memory thing?

    You cannot replace the core 2 duo cpu with the i7 because they use different sockets (the place on the motherboard where the cpu slots in). as TimeWriter already mentioned.

    i7 supports socket PGA988

    Core 2 Duo supports sockets BGA479 and PGA478
