Hey guys,
does anyone know if it's possible/beneficial to undervolt a laptop i3/i5/i7 CPU? I have the 740qm and I was thinking if it could be done, battery life would be improved. I tried it on my desktop i7 just as an experiment and managed to undervolt it quite a lot before it became unstable.
Any info appreciated,
thanks.

I'm going to guess he used bios options to change the voltage.
With a notebook, your best bet would probably be a voltage regulator pin mod.
A CPU pin mod would be possible, but not convenient. -
Right, so there's no software that can be used to undervolt the CPU?
And yes you're correct, I used the BIOS to undervolt my desktop CPU. I have the i7 950. When set to auto voltage it was about 1.25v at stock clocks under 100% load. I managed to get it down to 1.04v. However i've overclocked the CPU now so the voltage is significantly higher. -

Not that I know of, though there might be something out there. -
Don't think anything exists yet. CPUGenie is also restricted up to the last generation C2Ds.

You may wanna try Throttlestop.I think it is somewhere in this forum.
Or,just Google for it.Make sure you get the latest version. -
Throttle stop, or any software, can't undervolt the core i-series chips. They have a power control module on die in the CPU. You'd need to mod the BIOS somehow to do it.
