This is a problem with the P55 chipset and connecting the iPhone in Win7 64-bit versions. Did anyone get this to work on their SXPS 1645 as of yet? Or are we all waiting for a BIOS update from Dell for this? I've tried tons of different things, and for the life of me can't get it to work.
Any help would be great... I'd like to get my iPhone working.![]()

I'll probably call tech support tomorrow to see if they have any answers. -
-
If you happen to have the Office 2010 x64 beta installed, iTunes won't see Outlook. (Apple hasn't written a x64 Outlook add-in yet).
-
I've run into this issue with my iPod Touch. I have a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) and have updated the PM55 chipset drivers to the latest available from Intel. iTunes gets stuck at Verifying my iPod.
This occurred with both the default Windows 7 drivers, the Dell drivers as well as the most recent Intel drivers. -
Alright, I've found a temporary workaround... I stopped the Bonjour service. Lo and behold, I'm able to actually sync with my iPod.
-
I tried updating the latest PM55 drivers.... but I'm not convinced that they installed properly. Argh... This is frustrating. -
Regarding the PM55 drivers from Intel's website, I tried running Setup.exe but that didn't seem to actually do anything. So I went to the Device Manager and manually updated the drivers for each Intel component listed under System Devices. Only then did my chipset components actually have the updated version.

Hm, same here. Just got my xps 1645 and can't seem to sync iphone. I get many kind of errors... "The iPhone cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found".
I've browsed around a bit. Apparently, this fixes it... i'm just not sure if we can do it on the XPS 1645. Anyone knows? I'm not really good with that kind of stuff.

Wait... file cannot be found. That reminded me of this:

Perhaps your issue is related? -
I don't know what I did.... but it seems to be working now. I ended up trying to do another complete restore of the firmware on my iPhone from my SXPS 1645, but to no avail it didn't change my situation. I then tried to sync it with my old desktop PC running WinXP Pro. To my surprise, the phone would no longer sync with itunes in WinXP. I did a restore from my WinXP itunes to the iphone, and then it was able to sync in WinXP itunes. Going back to the SXPS with Win7 Pro 64-bit with 64-bit itunes.... and to my surprise, it just Worked!!!!
After some reboots, re-sync's, more reboots, more testing, everything seems okay. iTunes seems to have the odd glitch, but that seems to be the general feeling online about the 64-bit version of itunes...
For now, I could myself lucky and see if there is any other problems with my SXPS and the iphone. -
Definitely not "issue free".... syncing is incredibly slow compared to my WinXP machine. I'm guessing that's attributed to itunes 64 still needing some work.
-
Anyone tried using iTunes 32-bits instead?
-
I might have to mention that I removed all the bundled apps that came with iTunes except the 2 services, iTunes, and QuickTime.
So Bonjour was gone, and so was Apple Software Update. Gosh I hate it when programs bundle other ones without the option to opt-out. -
Does anyone else have any suggestions for this problem? I just bought an iphone and now realise I might have a very expensive toy.
Dell XPS 1645
Bios A03
Updated to intel drivers.
Deleted xml file.
Uninstalled bonjour (haven't tried uninstall of apple software update yet).
Am at a wits end ... maybe the promised bios update in the coming days may fix this issue...
I could try to synce it in XP mode, but my Microsoft Office 2007 is on my Windows 7 version ...
Agh!!! -
I've never had problems syncing my 3GS (or my 3G and my sisters 2G) with my 1640, and never had a problem with iTunes x64
Is the problem that the computer isn't reading the phone? I'd do a DFU restore on the iPhone -
Apparently this is a issue with the new p55 chipset featuring the new core i7 processors. Asus, Toshiba, HP all had bios updates for it but Dell doesn't seem to care.
Here is the thread on it on dell's website http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/19306534/19620245.aspx -
Have restored the phone several times now ... I think it may be the p55 chipset problem and I'm waiting on a bios update from Dell but don't know when that will happen. There's a beta bios doing the rounds in the throttle thread but not game to try that as yet ... Might try an express card USB slot to see if that works...
-
There is a BIOS update released 12 Jan. for the 1747 that fixes this issue. Is it too much to hope for the upcoming 1645 update to include the same fix?
-
My bro's 3GS and my dad's 3G synced fine with my SXPS 1645 on Win 7 Pro 64-bit, clean install.
-
This is a clean install too ... Recently did a clean install with a 64GB SSD drive (have the 500gb hard drive in the optical bay) ... I'm on modded ATI drivers to fix the flash freezing issue. Will report back on how the express card slot goes.
-
Tried a USB express card and a usb hub attached to this ... it actually synced more than once but then sh*t itself again. I've resorted to syncing it with an itunes on my old laptop and using gmail and google calendar and will sync over the air (wireless or via iphone 3G connection). Hopefully there's a bios fix soon...
-
Fixed it ... installed itunes like usual. Ran in vista compatibility mode (right click itunes.exe, properties, compatibility tab). Previously had installed in vista compatibility mode service pack 2 but hadn't specifically run in vista mode only.
Bios A03, intel chipset drivers. -
I did the same - set iTunes to run in Vista SP2 compatibility mode and it worked. I then closed iTunes, unplugged my Touch, removed the compatibility mode setting, restarted iTunes and re-synced my Touch and it worked again.
Remains to be seen if it will sync normally again next time or if it will need to be swtiched back to Vista SP2 compatibility mode. -
Any update on this issue guys??? I heard that Dell came out with a BIOS fix for the STUDIO 17 and it seems to resolve the SYNC ISSUE with iPod's and iPhones!!! Called up customer care today and asked them about the throttling issue and they said that the BIOS update will be ready by the end of this month.
Hope it resolves both the issues - THROTTLING and SYNC. -
Hey guys. anyone had an update from Dell on this one yet? I've gone back to syncing my iphone on my desktop in the study after multiple wipes and "this iphone is a new iphone, please restore" etc etc
bloody irritating, one of the main reasons i got this lappy was so i could use itunes in the lounge with my phone plugged in, as thats where i spend my evenings... -
Does everybody know that the Studio XPS 1645 has a new bios out - A06. This does fix the syncing problem with Itunes.
-
yeah apparanlty A06 is supposed to fix this
-
My initial fix for this was to run in vista compatibility mode. I installed the latest bios and itunes, turned off vista compatibility mode but get an annoying message everytime - "itunes.exe has been set to run in an older version of windows" etc. iPhone still syncs properly and with less error messages than before, but I just wish that that message wouldn't pop up everytime. I have tried installing/uninstalling and the apple solution to this but not luck so far (have checked all shortcuts and .exe files to ensure that compatibility mode is off).
Found the solution in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10397771#10397771
Thanks to RandomBehavior from that thread! -
No problems on my 1645 SXPS with my 3GS 32Gb iPhone. No problems on the SXPS of my girlfriend with her 3GS too.... Did a fresh install of W7 Pro.
