Hey i bought my m1730 a few days before the new xps models came out and im wondering if in any way could the m1640 be better than my set up below? thanks
-
Keep your M1730.
I guess the only thing 1640 is better than your machine is the keyboard (backlighting). -
i have a backlit keyboard on this
-
Oh, excellent then! Enjoy your 1730.
-
I think the 1640 is better than yours in RAM(speed), and screen. If I were you, I would buy the 1640 and use the difference of the 1730 and 1640 to build a gaming system.
-
There's not much performance gain from DDR2 to DDR3. As for 1640's screen, well, there's an ongoing thread about that.
His/her M1730's screen has higher resolution than 1640's. -
but the graphics on the m1640 suck compared to mine
-
sorry for double post but its a he lol
-
first of all your comparing apples to oranges. as for performance your machine murders the studio xps 16. but the studio xps beats your machine in the beauty department =]
-
psh mine wins in the cool department
-
Yeah, the 1640 is quite a bit better. It's more compact, has a better screen and is a later model. The 1730s were cool last year, though, so they're not like totally lame or anything.
-
I think you've already made your choice.
-
cept in gaming thats what the 1730 is better in -
-
lol man, that xps m1730 is just awsome, i mean seriously, backlit keyboard, sli killer GFX, intel extreme, super 17' screen, and those light FX are so cool, if i wanted a desktop replacement i would have gotten the 1730, but i needed more portability, at the cost of performance
yours beats any studio xps, or any smaller laptop for that matter, its simply one of the best notebooks out there, you should be proud
Cheers mate! -
i am proud but i had a alienware m17 before this and im kinda missing that now.. quad core
-
no offense, but why would you pay 3k+ for a laptop for gaming-which you can't carry around? If you want to game, you can totally build or buy a monster-like desktop and still have lots of money left over...even enough to buy a laptop
-
^Because a gaming laptop is still much more portable than a desktop.
-
My question is why would you start this thread if you're just saying your notebook's better lol
-
Aside the fact that the Studio XPS 16 is hands down better than the 1730 (or any Alienware), the 1730 is a fine notebook as a secondary option. Anyone who says you can't carry it around is just wimpy.
-
Sorry, WHAT?
The xps1730 is among the top gaming laptops in the world:
-SLI
-dual hdds
-X9000 cpu for extreme performance
-backlit keyboard
-ageia physx card
-lit logo,wings,speakers
-great finish
And tons more. And you`re comparing it to the xps1640? I would LOL my arse off, they`re not even on the same page here.
1 8800M GTX murders the Ati card in the 1640,let alone 2 of them... -
1730 is definitely the better laptop in terms of performance and features.
(This is coming from a 1640 user.) -
the sxps is kinda sexy, but for performance the 1730 is just incredible. i have issues with the looks of the 1730, i absolutely hate it and i am in the process of buying new plastics so i can flat black everything, then i might be happy. i still wouldn't trade 2 sxps16's though
-
i guess its not "ultraportable" but i bring my 1730 around. its 13 pounds but dosnt seem that heavy
-
I've used 17 in notebooks extensively. The screen space is what I like about them. I finally settled on the 15.4 (16, now I guess) size basically because the 17s are really impractical on planes and not all that great on laps, either. The weight doesn't really bother me. I mean come on, who isn't carrying around at least 5 lbs of body fat they don't need?
-
-
just wondering
