I just received an l401x as a replacement to my old m1330. I changed the screen out for the LG and love it. However, when I was given this system it did not come with a blu ray burner, despite my best efforts to convince the dell rep to add it on as a friendly gesture.

Now as I greatly desire the ability to rip my blu ray collection to my laptop, I am having the trouble of finding a suitable internal drive, and was unable to locate any thread discussing this (I am also new to the forum, forgive my noob'ness). I couldn't find anything on newegg or TD, which are generally my goto for computing hardware.

If anyone could help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it. Money isnt really an issue, so whatever you come across let me know.

If you're saying you want to buy an aftermarket internal Blu-ray (burner), I don't think there is anyplace you can get one that would fit. Dell sells one--theoretically. Like most L401X parts--might be $$$ and take a while to get, but you can probably order it.

Are you sure you need a burner and not just a reader--if your main intent is to rip TO your computer?

Optical drives are pretty standard. I think the current XPS systems use 9.5mm SATA tray loading drives. I've been looking for a blu-ray drive for mine, but I haven't been very successful, though I have seen a few on ebay. Usually its blu-ray burners, but I don't really need that.

Would something like this fit? Anybody know?

CT10L - Hitachi-LG (HL) SATA Laptop Blu-Ray Player, DVD±RW LightScribe Combo Drive - Laptop Blu-Ray and DVDRW Combos

I think part of the problem--assuming we can find a drive that fits--is the faceplate. The XPS faceplate is silver and conforms to the curved shape of the machine.

Not sure how hard it is to find a standard replacement drive where that faceplate can be transplanted?

If we can find a workable unit we can spread the word and, similar to the LG screen replacement, have blu ray for less than the 450.00 dell wants for it (they only offer the burner).

Also, can someone who has the L401X blu-ray burner post the model number or specs? I am happy to do the research to find a drive we can replace the DVD drive with.

Nobody knows anything about the blu-ray model that is shipping with the L401X?
