Does the non 3d version ie no 3d screen support 3d when connected to a 3d tv? If so how do you make it work? as clicking on 3d vision applications in program files results in "primary display adapter does not support 3d vision", when i thought it did.

Well when I ordered mine I was told by Dell that such a thing was possible...
But of course they also told me I could get a 4-RAM slot mobo without 3D screen, and that there would never be a 1080p non-3D option (there was not 5 days later!), and a few other lies so yea...
I would think it could work, but without a 3D screen to play with I can't help you further Sam, sorry. I assume you are at least trying to enable this when plugged into a 3D TV and laptop monitor off? -
Yes ive tried plugging it in but ive done some digging online and discovered everyone is having the same problem. So it looks like due to optimus the non 3d version of the l702x is non 3d full stop with no chance of outputting to an external source even. I believe its optimus again stopping this, even whitelisting the apps does nothing.
The dell rep obviously lied to me to then Matt, might just ring them up and ask how to make it work for the entertainment. -
Probably is Optimus, although the HDMI port is linked straight to the Nvidia card IIRC. So Optimus shouldn't be coming into play there, but who knows  Dell did do some weird things with the BIOS on these systems, but I don't need to tell you that

Well had another go at connecting it to my tv. It displays fine in 1080p but even though the nvidia card is active. The 3d vision still refuses to work and claims the integrated card is the main display adapter, so optimus again. Ive tried many settings reinstalled all sorts of display and 3d drivers and nothing.
So looks like anyone with a non 3d version of the l702x cant even display 3d content on a 3d screen full stop. Sort of now wishing i bought the 3d config if not for 3d but for a better screen and four sodimm slots. The only advantage im getting with a non 3d version is better battery life, which is useless to me anyway as its plugged in 99% of the time :/ -
did you try this method? (Don't flame me if you did.... I haven't even tried 3d on my 55in HDTV yet lol)....
Right-Click
Nvidia Control Panel
Manage 3d Settings
Under Global Settings, Set preferred graphics processor to high-performance nvidia processor.
Also, under Physx on the left side, hit Geforce GT555m instead of auto-select/CPU
Let me know your results! I'll be testing this soon this upcoming friday!! -
I havent but dont see what difference it would make as when you connect it to a tv its forcing the 555 on anyway. You dont even need to connect it to a 3d tv to test this actually. If you try enabling 3d vision in nvidia corporation in program files and it says the display adapter doesnt support 3d you know its not gonna work.

Have you gone through the steps listed in the Quick Setup Guide that came with the Laptop for setting up 3D TV?
-
That sucks Sam, it seems it ought to work. Wish I could help you test, but alas, no 3D screen for me and little reason to buy one. -
Hi Sam,just out of interest.Do you have Nvidia 3DTV Play on your system? If not you could give the trial a go and see if it works for you.I have a 3D l702x,so it works for me on my 3DTV anyway.I'm sure it should work,as the 550 & 555m are 3D capable. Also some of the 3D media won't work on my TV unless I'm using one of my cheap 1.4 capable HDMI cables.Everything else works using a standard 1.3 HDMI.

That's awesome Sam! Dont watch too long, my eyes hurt after playing 15 minutes of Nazi Zombies in 3d via xbox 360.
-
But yeah im impressed so far and have a 3d movie on the way! So cant wait to see what thats like. -
i'm excited for you!! And yes, Nazi Zombies has a lot of dark and bright areas. The windows where you heal are very bright inside in certain areas. A lot of variations in colors and etc. etc. I kept pushing after the 15 minute mark the next week and almost threw up after 30mins of usage haha....
So you got the 3d working now? I'll be testing this soon on my tv -
-
But it's been worked out anyway so NVM.
so I also haven't installed the software. Fingers crossed it will!!

what tv did you got Sam.Why not try with another 3d convert software not nvidia one.Try this TriDef 3D or this Home | iZ3D .I have tried iz3d to convert mass effect 3 in anaglyphic and it work well on my non 3d 900p screen.Nvidia use to have anaglyph convertor in vision drivers but not any more.Pfff today my english is very poor. Its gone
.I am preaty shure that hdmi cable is always hardware to the discrete gpu, thats why every gpu has hd audio driver,to convert video and audio when is plug in tho tv.And optimus is overpass when signal is from hdmi, its just nvidia 3d vision sucks.Try with other program.

Have to be next week as im working all weekend.

I use TriDed 3D when connecting my non-3D enabled L702X to my LG 3D monitor, and it works perfectly (software came with the monitor, which is the type that has passive glasses rather than battery power active shutter glasses).
It even lets you create 3D profiles for browser games that use Directx (I play RuneScape in 3D, which works surprisingly well).
l702x non 3d version support external 3d?
