I just received my XPS 17 a couple days ago. I noticed I am getting random lockups every now and then... it will be simple tasks like switching form one window to another, or scrolling down a webpage. Also, on occasion it takes a much longer time to boot than normal (it seems to hang on the windows logo screen). It does eventually boot, and does come out of these lockups after maybe 30 seconds of complete unresponsiveness... and every click I made during the downtime registers all at once.

What gives? Does anyone else experience these symptoms?

Can you check your even viewer for any warnings or errors? Usually in my experience lockups that happen when doing normal stuff is memory related. Try running a memory tester.

You haven't got a crucial m4 ssd have you? As this was a issue with the 0001 firmware but they later fixed with 0002. If not whats your hdd setup?

If that's the case, I'm running mine with firmware 0002 without issues.

Yeah same, the 0002 firmware fixed the lock up issues.

Oh really? Haha, yes... I happen to have just put in a new M4 64gig... somehow I suspected it was hard drive related. Should I reformat my hard drive after doing a firmware update?

No I don't believe you have to. Crucial recommends you back up your data before updating though.
