    Hi

I`ve noticed recently that i`m getting a stutter / slowdown of my l702x laptop when there is alot of hard drive access. The mouse movement is slowing, when listening to music the sound is stuttering. Its most noticeable if I`m running a virus scan or downloading something in the background. Usually occurs every 5mins or so.
Anyone had a similar problem? Ive only noticed it happening recently, never use to do it. Although i`ve only recently set down to do work with music playing.

    THanks

Thanks, does sound similar although no clicking noise on mine just a system slowdown for a second or two. I have had no problems music in the past so I`m still wondering if its a driver issue thats changed recently.

I`ve been uninstalling and checking drivers that have changed for the last few weeks but nothing has helped. Then I remembered I have the original windows installation on my 2nd drive which I changed when I installed my ssd.
Seems the problem isnt on the original dell installation of windows.
So it must be software related. Any ideas where to begin working out what could be causing this slowdown?

Really is annoying when working and everything slowsdown every 5 minutes. :(

    Thanks

    Bumping

    As an update.
I`ve tried removing all usb connections. Reverted to old usb drivers, nvidia drivers and sound drivers.
Also tried removing software and tasks that are important. I`m considering removing mcafee virus next. Also turned off wifi.
It seems to be completely random when this problem occurs. But seems to be on hd drive access.

Next option , format the drive and start again. :-(
Or god forbid phone dell support.

Greetings, I have the same issue with my XPS L502X. When opening a video from hard drive i'm getting a stutter of the system, but when the video is played from an usb drive no issues occurs. Did you have the solution? I'm hating dell right now... THX!

    Hi

To be honest I never really found out what caused the problem, mine seemed to be a two fold problem. One was caused by my ssd, which since moving to a new PC has still caused some stuttering occasionally (but not on video). The video stuttering seemed to go away eventually, perhaps try uninstalling the ide/atapi drivers and let it re-install or make sure you have the latest.
In the end I had enough of the Dell and went out and bought a new desktop PC. Everything about the Dell was poor, the quality, the drivers, the service so I went for something I didnt have to rely on Dell drivers for it to work properly.

    Hope that helps.

dpgroo - I am currently having the exact same problem w/ my pretty new HP DV7T-5000. Video from external HD works perfectly. The same video copied to my desktop becomes choppy; it stutters after a little bit. Video games are the same - stutter badly. I have tried EVERYTHING. Have you found any solution????

My solution too this problem, which has worked so far, was to uninstall McAfee antivirus. OR...turn off the firewall. Hope it works for you.
