hey guys when i first got this laptop i noticed that the screen was distorted and there was red lines everywhere and the screen was shaking abit. so i contacted dell and they sent me a repair guy to fix it. he fixed it in about 15min by pulling apart the laptop and replugging in the screen. but now its happening again. so i think the thing that plugs in is loose or somethin. so what do u think i should do out of the following options.

    1. open it myself and replug it (im a noob and will try remember best what he did)
    2. get techinician to come in again (bothersome as i have school)
    3. ask dell for a replacement laptop.

    btw im using m1530

If you have an external monitor, try using that and see if it shows the lines too.

Most likely he didnt plug it in properly or the cable is damaged.

Well, if it happened again on it's own it might be a recurring issue, so it might be better to get a replacement either way.

Taking it apart yourself depends how confident about it you are. I replaced the screen on my m1530 once but I've done a fair bit of hardware work before, and it takes a bit of getting into that area - even if you're just re-plugging the plug. The service manual linked in this thread should give all the eaxct steps to opening it up, but I seem to remember it actually asked you to take apart more than necessary.

Maybe a tech could fix the plug if it's faulty/broken as well as plugging it back in, rather than getting a whole new laptop.

It's simple call Dell tell them what is happening, and ask them to replace the 1530, with a brand new one ~ or send the technician out to correct the problem once again.

How long have you had your 1530 for??? If I were you, I would have them replace with a new 1530. ;)

Just call Dell and they should send a technician.

It might be too invasive to do it yourself and risk damaging something.

I dont know how knowledgeable you are with laptops but id say its easy.

See this guide. You just need to pop out the keyboard and reseat the cable (assuming its not broken). Not all the steps in the guide apply for you, im just showing you.

I think it would be the best thing to do. If they want to keep a happy customer, you would think they woudl do it. If this happened with my 1530, that would be what I would do.

When did you receive your 1530????

Well, you have 21 days from date of invoice to return for a refund, or a new replacement. After 21 days you will get a refurb.

This is something you are going to want to contact Dell (again) ASAP.

What is the date on your invoice, that you rec'd with your lappy?

You tell them that you are w/in the 21 day period for return for a new lappy or refund ~ you do not want a Technican. You are entitled to a new replacement. Ask them, if they would rather you return for a refund ~ and you go to another brand for a laptop.

I wouldn't think you should have any prob's with the replacement, though. ;)
