okay ive had my xps 1530 just a few weeks now and have noticed that when i switch it off the screen stays a slighly shade of green colour, and doesnt go completley black.
but when i power it up again it flicks to black colour, ive rang dell who tested my screen, which was ok, and they updated my BIOS, which seemed to help for about 3 days and now its started again. Could there be a problem with my video card? many thanks in advance for your help.

so I dont really know if your symptom fits into the scheme of things as put out by Dell...

But you might want to Call Dell again and tell them the issue is back, and you think its probably the video card and ask for a replacement. You are covered under warranty and Dell has been honoring this... So give it a try. I would rather do it sooner than later. Good Luck.

Aren't all LCD screens like this. It's not as apparent on my XPS, but on the Creative Zen Vision:M I had the screen looked green when turned off. And since you said it's only when the screen is off I think your ok. Unless of course the green is really visible and your screen may be having problems.

    Yo OP.

    That's normal.

    Nothing to worry about.

    Thats Liquid Crystal Display LCD

    Peace

    side note

Its like when you have a smudge on your screen, you can see it when you turn it off but when your turn it on you cant. Nothing to do with anything

so how come, sometimes when i switch off the screen it can go completley black. And then sometimes it stay a slightly shade of green? my first thoughts was that it was the LCD, but then on reading post about dodgy graphics cards, i'm in 2 minds. Am i best off ringing dell and gettin them to look at it? (and looking like a complete nugget when an engineer come out)

    Thanks for the replies guys

I think that is just the LCD screen doing its natural thing...if you want to be sure, remove the battery AND power adapter and hold the power button down for 60 seconds.

Now you'll know exactly what the LCD screen is supposed to look like when no power is flowing through it.

It is possible, but unlikely, that a small current is still going through your LCD circuits when off...which would explain the green tint if the green tint is not normal. If that really is the case, then you probably need something replaced to fix it. Either the motherboard, the LCD inverter, or the LCD itself. Unless there is no other noticeable effects, I'd say that kind of repair isn't worth it.

Because the screen itself is a slight shade of green, but when you power it up the colour of the BIOS etc is black and white.
