like all the dell xps users faced the problems of over heating while gaming...........i have dell xps 15 l502x, i-5, 6gb ram, gpu nvidea gt 540m........and it gets heated upto 95 to 97 degrees(measured the max temperatures while gaming using core temp)

so i bought coolermaster's U3 cooling pad which has 3 adjustable fans.......which can be placed right below the hot spots that is gpu cpu and hd

well i guess i know position of cpu and hd i.e:-
1.harddisk left bottom near the touch pad from the keyboard side
    2. cpu right top( the vent from back side i mean turning the laptop to the other side)

i want to know where is the GPU? and if m wrong with the hard disk and cpu position plz correct me...........so that i can place the fan right below these areas

Possibly it would help to take a look at the L502x service manual?

That makes no sense. Choose one fixed position/view from which to locate components.

When looking down at the laptop in normal position (keyboard up and display facing you) I believe you are correct that HD is lower left. I'm not sure where CPU and GPU are, but I think there's a thread here in which someone posted internal photos.

My laptop never got that hot. It got to max of 81 C and 70ish with laptop cooler. Maybe you want to try to repaste your cpu and gpu

service manual doesnt show the location of cpu and gpu

can u plz post that link which has internal photos

if u had the same configs as mine then u might also have got such rising temperatures....................it doesnt happen on idle mode or playin regular games but only with high graphics games like call of duty black ops ,batman arkham asylum

when contacted dell they say its normal ...........u shudnt worry unless ur pc gets shutdown or restarted due to the rising temperatures

Please don't bump your thread more than once in 24 hours. It is poor forum etiquette and against forum rules.

Locations of GPU/CPU. You can clearly see the PGA and soldered GPU.

Hard drive is located under the palmrest, left-hand side.

Another useful post from alinad. I'm sure his tests were equally useful.
