im running only 1gig right now. i want to upgrade that. i just want to verify before i order-

xp pro 32 bit only will support up to 3 gigs correct? so buying 2x 2gb sticks is pointless? should i just get a 2gb stick and a 1gb stick (same brand/model of ram)

and i need 200 pin ddr2 sodimm right?

It will support 3.5 gigs. You want 2x 2gb sticks so you can have 3.5gb (recognized) symmetric dual channel which will increase the performance.

If you get 1 2gb stick and 1 1gb stick for a total of 3gb, you will only have 2gb of asymetric dual channel.

Actually It will supoort 3.2 to 3.5 and for some peolle that .2-.5 is worth it.

The increase of dual chanel is between 1-3% AT MOST! so it is not a really "noticible" difference

64 bit OS's are the future. You should look into upgrading to one eventually, so then you'll be able to use all 4GB.

    But yeah, go with 4GB.

Hogwash. It supports 3.5. It varies between system to system for instance, on my tablet pc with 32-bit Vista Home Premium, it only recognizes 2.99. For the M1530, its 3.5.

I wouldnt say that if I were you. The T9300 to T9500, though only a 100mhz difference, is actually noticable for some who have better FPS in games, faster operation of Vista, etc. Even it may be small, you still notice it.

If you get a 64-bit OS, it can use up to 8GB. So, your still gonna have to buy two 4GB DIMMS once 64-bit gets popular.

Yeah, but what Im trying to convey is my the time 64-bit gets popular, your probably going to get another notebook that will support 8GB since Montevina is coming out.

My mistake for not being clear.

sounds good. i might as well just get the 2x 2gb sticks.

    im looking for one :(

i just formatted with my xp pro 32 bit cd, so itll be fine for me for now. i dont game or anything, just internet/forums/chatting, etc.

but i deffinently want to get a copy of the 64 bit ;)

xp that is, i never will use vista! lol

i thought i read somewhere that xp pro 64 bit supports some crazy number like 128GB of ram or something?

    oh.

either way, by the time 64 bit becomes popular, i will probably be getting a new laptop/desktop anyways. i have a desktop as well that i just built, i got the laptop for a good deal so i picked that up too :)

I wish to use Windows Vista 32 bit, so it does make a difference if I opt for 4 GB, right? There are the options available in Dell website for us:

    3 GB = 1x2 GB + 1x1 GB 667 Mhz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    4 GB = (2 x 2048 MB) 667 MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM

Also, could someone tell me whether the GeForce graphics card will make any difference in the Vista experience? I do not have any gaming, so I am not sure if its worth spending extra for the GeFore graphics card.

P.S.: I am looking to buy XPS m1330

4 GB = (2 x 2048 MB) 667 MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM + Geforce 8400GS 256MB GFX Card would be Great Combo Arun ;) and it makes a Vista more Snappier and i think the Geforce card is only 3000+rs so no biggie if you ask me
