I did a search for this and couldn't find anything related, so forgive me if this is a duplicate.
I've had my XPS m1330 (running Vista x64) since mid-June, and have had few problems with it. Now, however, it is taking a very long time to complete the Power On Self Test phase of the bootup sequence.
It will sit at the DELL bootup screen for up to 10 minutes with the progress bar about 90% (see attached picture) finished before moving on to the Windows boot. Has anyone else experienced this, and is it indicative of a bigger problem?
BTW, I upgraded from A10 BIOS to A12, and it still has the same issue.
Thanks.

something went wrong with your BIOS..... call Dell
i remember that the first boot after updating bios would take a longer time than normal, but would revert back to fast after second boot....
go Dell Diagnostics partition and do all the tests while waiting for Dell to pick up ur call(since they'll ask u to do it anyway)
-
I have to call them about my GPU idle temperature anyway (between 75 and 80C...too hot) so I'll mention this then.
Thanks! -
Iniitial BIOS will boot up very slow if you have changed a hardware. After initial boot, it will boot up very fast if your BIO the POST Behavior, Fast Boot, is set for Minimal.
-
I have not changed any hardware, but Ill take a look at the settings in the BIOS when I get home.
Thanks! -
Yeah I only experience this when there is a hardware change but if you have changed nothing you should get it checked out. It could be that your memory got unseated, mine did and this happened but it told me that my system memory changed. So I just opened it and reseated it. And try and set that fast boot inside the BIOS settings.

I get this at times on my m1530. Usually happens if I had my computer has rebooted quite a few times due to sleep mode crashing.
-
I also only ever get this when I make a change in the BIOs or update it.
-
I get this when I don't use my computer for a few days.
The full POST still only takes < 40 seconds compared to the routine 5 seconds
Try flashing the bios with the dell utility
m1330 Long time to POST
