Guys... I recently bought a m1330 and heard a lot of graphic card failure and lined screen... and my fan is quite nosy so I was thinking whether a copper mod is in order
Attached 2 pictures of the vga cooler, is this the new version of the cooler? If yes, should I perform a copper mod?

Actually, these pictures do seem to be different than the original design (compare with pictures on copper mod thread)

Has anyone had a GPU fail on a system with this (seemingly) new design of heatsink?

Anthonylei...can you see if there is a blue sponge (like the one under the Northbridge chip in your photos) also under the Nvidia GPU? Maybe Dell have implemented their own "copper mod"!!!

I have a M1330 similar to anthonylei. It looks like it has the blue sponge on the bottom of the GPU.

I have the same heatsink/fan assembly. I also completed the copper mod on it as well. Don't worry about the difference, the etchings on where to spread your AS5 is still there on the oversized heatsink over the GPU.

That looks like my heatsink. I bought my M1330 around April this year. Go for the copper mod! You won't regret it :)

Also, exactly how old is your laptop? Fan always on may indicate the beginning of the end for your GPU. However, if this is a fairly new laptop, then the fan thing could be related to something else.

PS. Also, keep in mind that the latest BIOS make the fan kick on sooner.

Yes, that blue heatpad is the culprit. If you see one between the GPU and Heat sink (GPU is the chip to your far left; middle one is the chipset) then you can benefit from the copper mod.
