I'm looking at the m1330 and the m1530 and I'm trying to figure out which screen size is best for me. I'm thinking I like the m1330 for the portability, but I'm worried I'll regret not going with the larger screen. Do any of you that have m1330's ever wish your screens were bigger? or do you just adjust to it and move on? I'm thinking the m1330 is probably 'big enough' ... but some feedback from users would make me feel better before I put my money down.

p.s. Mostly I'll be coding in vb.net and sql ... so basically I'll be working with a lot of text and surfing the web. No gaming. Maybe the occasional movie.

I know what your feeling believe me, Personally I'd say go for the M1330 because it's more portable and sleeker and less waiting time but thats just my oppinion. They arn't screen defects on the M1330 like the M1530 but there is apparant CPU whine.

    Good luck :)

if you need something to take around with you everywhere. literally as in from bed to desk, from desk to living room to coffee table etc then m1330 is perfect. if that's the case then i wouldn't get anything over 14". however if you're mostly working on a desk then m1530 will suit your purpose. if you're working on coding then i'd go with 1530 as the 13" can be a little small. better yet why not look into 14" notebook?

And I have received 4 m1330's and the screens have been fine with no
    whine..
    I'd go that route.

The 1530 isnt actually that heavy..... I carry it to school everyday with ease! And I am not a large/bulky person at all...

I went from an E1505 1680x1050 to a M1210, 12.1 1280x800 screen without issue, I missed the extra real estate, but quickly adjusted to less room to work.

i think the real issue is not the weight but the compact form factor which matters more. it's world of difference handling 15" and 13-14" for extended period of time.

If you want the portability of the M1330 but the convenience of a bigger screen, get the smaller M1330 and buy an external screen!

Voila. Now you have your pocket rocket running a bigger screen when at your desk, and upto 24" no less. It's a win/win kind of thing. :)

I've just ordered the M1530 and I'm not looking back. I'm also going to be using it heavily for coding and some graphic/web development on the go so I figured it'd be perfect. Of course, if you're taking it on planes/trains around A LOT, it probably isn't a good idea.

Well having recieved an m1330 three days ago and being used to 15.4" and 22" laptops / monitor, I can tell you the first day I did feel the 13.3" was too small, but having used it for a further two days you do adjust to it.

However I still feel it is one size too small for doing extended amounts of college work (word processing) comfortably.

So i've now opted for a 14.1" because it is the perfect compromise between the two (15.4" and 13.3") in my opinion, it keeps the small form factor of the m1330 yet gives you a bigger screen.

It does take some getting used to. If you plan to use it in one place a majority of the time and move around rarely, definitely get the M1530 .. but if you travel a lot M1330 is the right size for travelling.. and battery life is better too...

Pics do not convey the difference in form factor between 1330/1530,you've got to see them both in person. The 1330 is small in comparison. If I had to do it over again,I think I would opt for the 1330 instead of the 1530 because I rarely game and the form factor of that machine is perfect.

I've had an m1330 since August of last year. I've never felt the need for a bigger screen.

My partner has an Inspiron 640m (14.1" screen) and everytime I look at it, I think it's huge in comparison.

I take my M133O with me almost every day, so I don't regret not having the extra screen space, though I use a dual-monitor setup at my desk, with my M133O just serving as my Outlook screen, and my "work" is done on the external LCD.

If the laptop were more stationary, I'd probably go for the M1530, though a 4 lb laptop must be experienced to be understood. For coding purposes, I'd certainly like as much room as possible, but if you have an external LCD, or, otherwise, on the road, my M1330 is quite doable for occasional coding.

Thank you to all that replied ... I really appreciate the tips. I think I'm going to go with the m1330 (and plug into an external monitor as needed).

    Thanks!

I went from a 15.4 to the m1330 and I love it. At first when I got it, I thought it was a little small, but now when I sometimes go back to using the 15.4 it feels unnecessarily big, but that's just me. I'm a student, so I do alot of papers, and the m1330 is the perfect size to me.

I've asked myself the same question, I was even worried about the screen resolution, but 1280x800 is more than enough and I got another lcd screen from my desktop that i can dual screen, the the inpiron's 1420 screen size is really not an issue.

I went from a 17 inch Toshiba Satellite to the m1330 and actually never really felt that the m1330 screen was too small at all. Though the screen is a slightly lower resolution, it's just right for my purposes; text is a nice size and I have enough room to accomplish anything I want to do. As far as I am concerned, a 13 inch machine is the perfect balance of portability and screen size. The weight difference between my new m1330 and my old Toshiba is wonderful too...10 pounds vs. 4 pounds. It is less than half the weight of my old machine, which is a massive difference. I can pick up my m1330 with one hand :) .

If I could change anything, I would put a more powerful GPU in it so that it could play some newer games at higher settings, but I knew that it wasn't a gaming machine when I bought it and I know that such a small machine can't really handle the heat output of a more powerful GPU. The fact that it even has a dedicated GPU is fantastic and was one big feature that the m1330 had over the Macbook when I was looking at smaller machines.

I love my M1330, I come from using a macbook so size wasn't an issue but the LED screen is fantastic and the widescreen viewing is one of my favorie things about this computer.
