i have an old HP 15" monitor(connected via VGA) and a 19" Dell monitor(connected via DVI)
looks like i cannot do all three screets(2 monitor+1laptop internal) together... is this a 8400 limitation?
// the 19" is part of a desktop that i'll leave at home...if this is the case, i was planning to bring the 15" monitor to my dorm and buy a 22" new LCD to dual screen ...

The 8400M GS only supports two monitors, including the internal panel, should you choose to use that. It will not support two external monitors and the internal LCD, though you can, at will, switch back and forth between the various combinations of 2 of the 3 panels.

It has only two RAMDACs which read in frambebuffers from VRAM and convert this to a serial series of bits in the timing of your external or internal screen.
I don't know much about the status of the GeForce drivers, but technically it's possible to output to three different TFT with the following restrictions:
. only two (of the three) TFTs contain different images.
. the two TFTs that contain the same image even share its timing data. If they have different native resolutions or one doesn't display the timings of the other: Too bad.
Both restrictions arise from having only two RAMDACs. -
