Does the video choppiness happen on action scenes or fast movement of the characters on the DVD? I experienced that on both dell's media direct and windows media player, but when I switched to watching a DVD on windows media center, the quality cleared up. Might be worth a shot to see if it makes a difference.

Try downloading VLC player. That should be able to play every media format there possibly is.

Are you running an x32 or x64 O/S?

When you're running on battery the system automatically downclocks the videocard. But choppiness is a bit odd. If you're running on vista, try to change the power option (left-click the task bar icon) to high performance instead of balanced/power saver and see if that makes a difference. Chances are it's not really a hardware problem but a driver issue and OS issue.

Download the latest Nvidia drivers from Dell and see if they help.
