i upgraded my cpu from t5250 to t9300 yesterday and i've run into the following issues:

The first time i tried to turn the laptop on after i replaced the cpu, the power button would light up for a second, screen still black, then it would instantly cut off. it did this twice, so i took the bottom panel back off and took the cpu back out and put it back in thinking i put it in wrong, this time it booted up. i figured it wasn't in all the way.

later that night, when i would turn the computer back on, it would litteraly sit at the dell splash screen for like 3 mins before loading all the way... it used to be so fast i would miss the option to go into boot menu... what would cause this? i have replaced cpu's before and even built my own desktop about 2 months ago so i know how to change a cpu. yes i used arctic silver thermal paste and cleaned off the old paste from the heatsink. yes i was grounded. why on earth would such a cpu upgrade cause this problem when booting?

last but not least, it looks like the computer instantly turns off like it did the first time when i have the charger plugged in.. once i take the charger out, it will start right up but still load slow at the dell splash screen.

please, any info will help. thank you.

also i might add, that the computer performs much better since i have upgraded. so i don't see how it could be a faulty cpu when it works great after this initial long boot time... just putting that out there

Does your bios need updating to be fully compatible with the new cpu? Might be worth looking into. Sorry i cant be of any more help but i have no experience with these cpu's or laptop.

bumping because the problem persists. initial boot is severely painful. instantly shuts off when i turn it on. after many attempts, it will eventually boot up.

sounds like something is faulty, could be CPU or something else otherwise.

When dell splash screen takes so long, it usually means it has to run through diagnostics because something was wrong. Take for example, i turn on the laptop, then shut it off right away (in your case same thing). it will load this long splash screen, checking memory, HDD, CPU and probably peripherals. I'd say something is faulty as it does that on off motion when turning it on.

I even went back to the original cpu and it's still instantly turning back off without doing anything. It's taking longer to actually start up now, before it would instantly turn off maybe 3times but now it's all its doing. Wont even boot now. I ordered a new motherboard, hope this helps

All it does now is instantly turn off as soon as I turn it back on. Anyone have similar problems or know a solution for this?

Also it can't be the cpu because when I take it out and boot the computer still instantly turning back off

Try removing the battery and the AC adapter and hold down the power button for 30 seconds 2-3 times. Otherwise you probably got a short/power circuitry issues with your mobo.

    Thank you for your reply.

I have tried the hard reset many times, no dice. Since I have tried to boot with the cpu, ram, hdd, and battery all removed would you say it is in fact a motherboard issue?

What does it do when you put the T5250 back in? That's one thing I would have tried if I were trying to see if something went wrong with the motherboard itself.

Aside from that, it sort of sounds like it's running the T9300 in a downclocked mode while booting (e.g. 800MHz) and then returns to normal when Windows loads. That would at least explain why it would be slow at one time, and fast at some other time. Could be a BIOS problem, in that case. One thing you could do is run the onboard diagnostics (I forget how to do that on the M1330...hold D on boot?) and see if it reports anything. Aside from that, maybe get a diagnostic boot CD of some sort that has CPU tests and see if it reports anything (including an abnormal clock speed).

Same thing when I put the old cpu back in :(
I can't even boot anymore, I see the power light turn on and I hear the hdd fan but then it turns off...

Sounds like motherboard failure, then. Is the socket fully intact? Aside from that, it could be a lot of things...chipset, GPU, or power supply/regulation.
