whats up guys,
long time lurker![]()
i'm deciding to revive my xps1530 through a series of upgrades:
-upgrading to 7200rpm fresh win7 64bit install. i have a website with all the necessary drivers and troubleshooting
-keeping my ram at 3gb. i might swap out my 1gb stick for a 4gb but i dont really know if the performance increase is worth the $25 lol
you cant find pc2-5300 4gb sticks ANYWHERE for a decent price![]()
-as5 thermal paste application to the gpu and cpu and a through dust cleanout
-getting a new battery from batteryedge
-and finally, fixing my damn screen. i currently have the 1440x900 and i plan to upgrade it to something with a better resolution. i might need a little help here for the best quality lcd screen. i did a little of research and it came to "LG Philips LPLF300 - Dell P/N: XK309 - Size: 15.4" what do you guys think? also, does any one know a good laptop repair place in the OC or LA area where they will have the screen in stock and do the work for me? i can do everything else (ram, thermalpaste, etc) on my own its just that im too lazy to fiddle with the screen.
any suggestions?
thanks!
if you guys were wondering my specs are:
t8300 - 2.4ghz
nvidia 8600gt
3gb ram
some random hdd 250gb 5400rpm
1440x900 screen by samsung i think.
m1530 FOREVER!!!

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
I would avoid dropping so much into an M1530 with the Nvidia timebomb. New drive maybe, but RAM won't be usable in a new computer (M1530 supports 6/8 GB DDR2).
-
did you mean timebomb as in the 8600 is gonna die on me soon?
new hdd = 55
new monitor = 90
thermal paste = 10
not that much haha... -
Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Yes all nearly all Nvidia chips on the Napa and Santa Rosa platforms (2006-2008) will almost certainly die. Only time will tell.
True that the upgrades don't cost much but the new screen can't be moved, only the hard drive. -
:O ty very much for the heads up!
i guess im just gonna go with a hdd upgrade, thermal paste, and clean up the inside. gonna squeeze the life out of this thing -
Sorry about not replying to your PM but I haven´t been around for a few days.
1- I wouldn´t change the screen, 1440x900 is more than enough on a 15,4".
2- I swapped the CPU for a T9300 (T7500 stock) and used some Artic Silver 5.
3- Swapped the Rev. 2 heatsink (aluminum) for a REv.1 (copper) but kept the Rev. 2 fan (quieter).
4- Upgraded to 4GB DDR2 800 (Corsair).
5- Replaced the stock (crap) HDD for a Scorpio Black 500Gb, should have gone for an SSD but the budget wasn´t that high.
If I were you, I would buy an SSD and some RAM. CPU swap is always debatable, I did it because the laptop didn´t cost much (250$ 2nd hand) but depends on what you use the laptop for.
m1530!
