Is there a way to get 2.1 audio instead of just stereo so I can have control to my subwoofer? I can only choose stereo, quadraphonic, and 5.1 surround under speaker setup. Is the bass boost the only way I can control my subwoofer on the laptop?

I just have on board audio with sigmatel HD audio software. It will let me change my 2 audio and 1 mic port to all 3 audio ports for front, center, and rear. I can hear my subwoofer when I run the audio channel test if I plug the 2.1 speakers into the center plug, which only gives me audo on my left speaker. If I plug it in the front speaker port, the sub won't sound during the channel test.

I could be wrong, havent researched it, but I believe we are limited to 2.0 sound. You could look into an express card, I believe creative makes some.

Weird since they let us have 5.1 setup but not 2.1.

Your 2.1 audio system has 2 jacks? An 3.5mm jack has two channels, most 2.1 systems shares the bass with those channels. You need one more jack (mono, with only one channel) to have a separate subwoofer channel. If you have it, you can use 5.1 channels audio setup and plug the stereo jack to the front and the mono jack to center/subwoofer.

If you only have one jack for the speakers then surely they aren't true 2.1? More 2.0 with redirected bass

The M1530 has two jacks for output. He mentioned changing the mic port to output as well, not sure if that works as I have never tried.

I have 3 ports if I change the mic to rear speakers. My 2.1 system has 2 ports and it did give me 2.1 set up when I plugged it in the front speaker port and center/sub port. Still the only way to change the bass is the bass boost option that adds 15dB which kind of ruins the sound. But without the bass boost I barely get any bass even with my sub set to max.

the xps m1530 has 3 outputs that can be configured to work either as inlets or outlets, if you use surround for example, you connect the 3 wires to the three connectors and configure the sigmatel control panel to use them as outputs.

as for the bass... im sure there is some windows option for it, if not, you can modify the equalizer on your player.
