The new deal for the deals of summer comes with 4gb of ram, MS office, 250gb 5200rpm hard drive, 9 cell battery, 1400x900 LCD, and 2.0GHz processor and then all the other things normal of the XPS M1530.

The price is 1,099 for the system.

I think the LCD is an upgrade over the normal screen, but wasn't sure. I bolded the things that I upgraded and italicized the things that came with the new deal. <<----

Still seems like you can get a better system with a coupon for 25% off systems over $1,500. I wonder if they'll offer that when the new coupon comes out.

Anything interesting of note here that I should focus on making sure I get and/or stay away from. Interestingly actually, the price of this system is the same as the Gateway 6860FX when it goes on sale at bestbuy... maybe that better video card is better.

But anyway, that's what the latest deal of summer is from Dell.

 

Hmm, i think a 25% off coupon is better, i got mine with a T9300 and a LED LCD and the Intel Wireless N Card and i paid less than $1300 shipped after tax..

The only thing is that you gotta wait for the 25% off coupon.. Dont know when it's gonna show up

That looks like a damn good deal to me, if not the best in the history of notebook sales.

I think Dell was generous enough to have one from the last week of April all the way through June 13. I mean, if you missed that huge lapse of time with the 25% off... oh well.

I agree, the 25% off coupon is much better and is THE best deal Dell has for XPS to date. (Excluding the short time period where people were able to work around the system and get M1530s for 50% off, but that was Dell's error at the time and it was fixed within a weeks time.)

If no 25% coupon shows up.... I'd suggest waiting for Montevina. At least, thats what I'd do. I mean, your going to be paying a much higher price now anyways, so why not pay the high price for new tech?

dell epp could get that system for $1300 WITH 3 yr warranty and accidental damage.....

 

It's not that great of a deal if you up the warranty. I configured one with the exact same specs as mine (which includes 2 Year Warranty and 2 Year Accidental) and it came out to $1751. I paid $1380 during the 10 Days of Dell Deals. Mine didn't come with Office 2007 Student...but even If I had added that to mine...I still paid like $251 less.

 

Not to hijack the thread but I'm a student who will be going to college in the fall and I was looking at the computer with the exact same specs.
Is it worth getting the 3 year warrenty or should I just test my luck because I'm not sure all of that is worth 1450(including 3 year warrenty)

i am also looking for xps 1530 with almost same specs...how do i get that deal with EPP?.....is EPP same as university discount?...when i sign on in delluniversity.com it takes me to a different deal for xps....how do i get to this $1099 deal page with EPP discount?...

You see the one for today is priced at $1,099.

I don't think that you can get the EPP added on if you order Online. My plan is to call them and see what they can do. I have a feeling that when dealing with Dell, calling someone is always better. And if you can't get what you think you can with the first rep, call back and talk to someone else.

 

I don't actually mind that someone brought up the warranty issue. I usually don't get warranty and of course its going to put a serious dent in your wallet in terms of ratio of awesome hardware / price.

But, is it pretty important to get? I'm a careful person usually.

$1299 - And at the time got free next day shipping.

It's pretty much the same deal as yours, I just got the WUXGA screen for the higher resolution. You could get the LED in this deal for $50 more or the WXGA monitor for $100 less, which would make it a bit cheaper then the one you configured.

Also, to be noted, this deal includes the 2-year type3 warranty (at home service).

On a desktop I'd say don't get a warranty at all. You can easily swap out parts with similar parts from Newegg.com, but with a laptop things like the motherboard and other parts are proprietary and different on every laptop. There is no standards for laptops like there is for desktops. Desktops have standards like ATX, BTX, MicroATX, etc. Laptops don't, making them a bit harder to find certain parts cause you gotta order a specific part from the laptop manufacturer. However, things like the CPU, ram, hard drive, optical drive are standard on laptops and can easily be replaced with readily available parts that DO NOT need to be ordered through Dell.

That's what I was thinking pngwyn. Open Office is pretty much the same thing but free. So MSoffice is kinda a take it because its there, moot point.

DFI Fan - thanks for your input on the warranty. It does make sense that I won't be able to work on this laptops core components like the motherboard. I'll have to think about that and see whether I trust the quality of dell and my computing usage to make it last that second year.

 

Well pngwyn, I used the link you gave me and configured the same system I configured earlier WITH 2 year warranty instead of the standard 1 year but without the "free" MSoffice and it came out to $1,199. So saving a hundred dollars by switching out MSoffice and gaining an extra year of warranty.

Do you mind letting me know how you came across that? Or I guess, which XPS system you started with to get this deal?

I ordered mine in midnight blue with T9300, LED screen and all the goodies yesterday. It was a $599 off and free 2nd day shipping deal. I charged it using Dell Card so there is no interest for 12 months.

DPP will not give you any extra, but you do get 12 months no interest! I am debating on picking one up myself...anyone have any input?

 

If there's anything I've realized from researching things about costs and deals it is that they tend to change more than you can keep up with. Might as well pick the components that you want, decide on a price that you consider to be the ceiling of your spending, and buy when you find a deal that meets both of those requirements.

If you keep waiting for the best deal, you might miss it or not even see it. There were people ready to buy a laptop when the 25% off coupon was up and they were asking if they should wait for a better deal. Maybe sometimes its just best to indulge and maybe end up spending $50 more than if you waited a week.

Guess it all depends if you want it now or have a fully functioning system to use at the moment and can casually wait longer for your new beast.

Well, if I were you, I'd wait for the next batch of coupons to come out and see if any are XPS related. These deals of summer are pretty good, but I'd imagine better to be coming around the bend soon.

Keep in mind tho that you are dealing with a wait time of probably 2weeks to 4 weeks till its in your hands.

 

I did this same exact deal as they sent me an email advertising it. I was able to deselect from 4gb ram to 2 gb ram (subtract 100), as well as deselect the 9 cell battery to the 6cell batter (minus 169). It put the total down to like $830.I then added the t8300 processor and the LED screen, and my total was $1110 AFTER tax. I was stoked. I didn't need the 8600m gt though since I do not game, so add an extra $100 to what I paid for those that want it.
