Hi all, i have noticed that my HDD is making a sound of a fan first i thought it's the fan of the CPU but it's not it's the HDD also he makes this "thinking nosies" all the time even when ideal in windows Vista i personally am a student and cant stand studying from PC with this nosies my HDD model is segagate ST9160821AS 160GB, any ideas about how making it to make less noise? or at least not the fan noise?

Hey modesty, yeah HDD sounds are a problem, but you can try some solutions that might fix it:

1- enter the BIOS, and select HDD settings ( i dont remember where it is exactly, but just look at the tabs and you will find it. Then it will show 3 options, set it to high performance. i did this myself, it shut the HD up real good :D

2- in vista, go to your C drive ( your main HDD) and right click, a window will show, go to the bottom and you will see the "index this drive for faster searching".
now this solution can cause your search to be a bit slow, but it will stop indexing all the time, therefore it will stop making noises ( hopefully )

I wonder if the SSDs are as quiet as people say. No moving parts sounds good to me... even if they are still more expensive.

If you think your ram is quiet you will probably think and SSD is quiet too.

    1) Download HDtune

    2) Check the SMART Health for any issues

    3) Do a full disc scan

You can adjust the AAM Value/Power Management in HD Tune or Notebook Hardware Control. (Set it to 255)
