I'm trying to figure out something: Is my GPU heating a little too much when I play World of Warcraft?

    GPU Temperature in WoW: ±72°C
Driver: 175.97 (recommended by a lot of users here)

What temperatures are you guys getting in WoW?

Can't remember what my temp is normally, but 72 degrees is fine.

72 is actually very good for being under "game stress"

Mine (yeah ok it's a M1330 so it's likely to run hotter) Goes to about 78 while playing wow (for a couple of hours :p )

    That ^ is normal.

What makes you think your GPU is going to die?

Isnt it? I read quite a lot about the scary heat cycle which describes exactly the same low-high-low temps my GPU is suffering.

Seems every m1530 owners here has stable idling temps, while mine is up and down. Isnt it right that that heat cycle will shorten my GPU life?

very much happy if i am wrong ...

Heat cycling has nothing to do with what temperature your laptop is hitting. Even if yout laptop was running cool it would still be susceptiple to heat cycling. Just turning on the laptop, then turning it off every day causes it.

So, in short, does anybody has the same temp fluctuation like mine in idle mode? Thanks

80 degrees granted isn't great, temperature wise for the laptops lifespan, but it isn't the worst (by a long shot)

As the others mentioned before me, your GPU will *anyways* go through the heat-cool cycle. It is not something that you can prevent. And the temperatures are you *worried* about, is not something you *need to be worried about*. Thats what I am saying. They are normal. And as for the idle temperatures, if you leave your laptop really idle for quiet some time without doing anything at all, you will see it stabilizes around 58-60C. And as for other idling, as in doing some minimal work, you should know that the GPU still has to render the desktop, the internet browser for example, and so on. So it will cycle. but what I have noticed is that it doesn't fluctuate so often at minimal work load or *idle work* if you may like to call it that way.

As for the temperatures themself, there are many other ways to bring them down, like undervolting, changing the thermal cooling material etc etc.. thats something different.

So, IMHO, you don't have to be worried too much. Just make sure your laptop is clean, the vent' are clean and not blocked and the temperatures should be in the normal range.

    Cheers.

Same here... I'll hit 56, and get up to 69 and so on and so on. Shouldn't be a problem. Higher temperatures will cause the GPU to fail faster than cycling at lower temps. I don't think any of us can say for certain how long these cards will last but I have to believe that an idle temp in the 60's should last at least 3 years!

It also depends on the ambient temperature of the room you're in. During the summer, my GPU could hit 76 degrees playing WoW if the room was warm. Now that it's cooler, it usually maxes out at 70.

Thanks for your explanation. Feel much relieved now!

Anyway, is there anything that can keep the fan on all the time, or at least can kick it on at lower temp than A09? Thanks.

mines reach even 85º playing wow :(

correct me if i'm wrong, i think the temps depends of what settings are you using, for example,
use 1920x1200 all full, will make GPU stress more, than 1440x900 medium settings right?? so the temp of the 1st case would be a little higher than the second one

    @counguq
If you are using the 6cells batt, put a book or a dvd box under ur xps, doing this it decrease at least 4º on mine.

i play at 1440x900 and my temps hit around 75ish. Thats if im playing on high settings. Since i figure i don't really care too much atm about the graphics i actually lowered all settings to low and my temp only goes as high up as 70 now.

From what i've seen I don't think it makes a difference..if you notice under the higher resolution the FPS are lower......under the lower resolution they are higher....so shes still working the same...just achieving better results

(that's what i've come to as a conclusion after some testing...might be wrong though)

@Weiser: thanks for your advice. but strangely enough i didnt get any temps down :( , sure that no blocking all the vents at all.
